Just joined this forum and just bought my first KLR... I have ridden motorcycles since the late 70's... dirt bikes initially but since the mid to late eighties I drove street bikes Harley's particularly ... I just recently traded both my DRZ 400E and my old Ironhead sporty for a 2007 KLR 650... So far I am loving it... It rides real well and seems very responsive...I wish I would have done this along time ago...I guess I will just have to ride that much more to make up for lost time...I am located in southern WV which I feel has some of the best riding in the world not to mention very close to TN, NC, and VA which offers awesome adventure (Blue ridge parkway, Cherokee etc...etc...) so I feel I have found the bike for just that.... still trying to decide on luggage and other accessories but for now I just want to learn the bike and get more comfortable on it... Thank you for reading my rants and raves.... :-0

oh btw.... yes I am long winded as well

A fellow Mountaineer, huh?

You'll like it around here these guys are a great bunch of fellows and seem willing to help a fellow rider with all sorts of questions and problems, etc. I'm new to the KLR scene as well, I'm a former DR rider and a long time cyclist myself. BTW, where are you exactly? I'm from Greenbrier cty. and now living in the New River Gorge area. Welcome to the forum and I'm currently modding my KLR with some Pelican Cases and I'll post some photo's when I get er' finished, 10-4.

Yep, done that. Also done 460 through Christiansburg to Princeton. Done 220 to 64. Also done 81N to up near Staunton and then west into WV.

52 North through Bland Co. Va is nice and also Wilderness road from Rocky Gap to Narrows Va. and (cant remember the route) the road to Burkes Gardens...I'm planning a ride this Sunday there.... 19 North to Beckley and to the New River Gorge is awesome too....you can ride under the bridge and look up at it....That's cool... :)...in 2004 I rappelled off of that bridge during bridge day...It was an over 800 foot rappel... what an awesome experience...

That bridge is quite the structure isn't it? I've walked the underside of it several times through the years and I always get a thrill doing that, but I've not rapped off of it. Those rides around Bland and Mercer are something I need to do sometime for certain. I've seen Burkes Garden on the map, but I've not been there. Wonder what the Hatfields and MCcoy's trails would be like on a big bike like the KLR?

If you get it up this way let me know sometime and we could take a ride. I do 99% percent of my riding solo and it would be fun to ride with others.

Same for Efigalixie. I was in Pocohantas this weekend (not on the KLR) and that place was inundated with riders. WV has become a destination for motorcyclists from the Mid-Atlantic region, the word is out now and our secret playground is no longer secret.

Hatfield and McCoy's would be very doable on a KLR...they are actually set up for all levels of riders...you pay a small fee and can ride on them but WV is full of roads were no fees are needed and no worries about being policed as well....it's all in what you want really... the trails are nice if you have difficulty finding your way because they are marked... I always use the approach " all roads lead somewhere so I keep going until I end up somewhere :) ...I have had to turn around a time or two though :)
