I used to read this forum quite a bit but this is my first post. I have an 05 and had the misfortune of having the majority of my doohicky spring come out of my oil drain yesterday. I know what I need to do, but don't know what additional damage this may have caused. What should I look for? Which replacement spring is best (torsion or standard)?

First and foremost, don't attempt to adjust the doohickey now by loosening the adjuster screw!! It's clamped in place and you don't want it to move..

If you've been riding the bike and haven't noticed anything funky, you're fine (other than you need to do the doo NOW)

I've never put in a torsion spring, and my guess is that Eagle Mike will be able to tell you what he's more comfortable with, since he sells them and has done tons of doo changes himself.

Again, don't loosen your adjuster screw!!

Order your parts and take care of this as soon as possible. Personally, I wouldn't ride the bike until you have it changed, but that pc of spring could have broken off 1000 miles ago..

Thanks. I didn't plan on riding it until the doo is replaced, knowing that there is still apeice of the spring floating around in there and probably pieces of the doohicky is driving me nuts allready. I noticed a few vendors that supply the parts, can someone direct me to the one manufactured by Eagle Mike. And Mike if your reading this please provide some insight on the different springs.

Don't know where you are located but a tech day would help. EagleMike is hosting a Tech Day this Saturday in San Diego. Order your parts directly from Mike at Eagle Mfg & Eng. All of the Eagle Doohickey's come with very good instructions and his cell phone number. Not all Doohickey's are manufactured by Eagle M & E though you shaould make sure you purchase an Eagle product.

Put in the torsion spring. It really isn't a bad job and if you put the hole at 7 oclock it's done for life. It is a bit harder to get over the adjuster though. I just did mine last week. I talked to Mike about it and the 7 oclock torsion spring is supposed to be the end of any problems and should last forever.

Haven't seen any other doohickeys than Mikes but I can tell ya it looks serious. Compaired to the stock one no comparison. Here Mikes web site.
