Because I put a down payment on one today,,, A left over 2011,, orange. I hope to get up to New Jersey Tuesday to pick it up.

SO,,

Honestly,, this bike will be a 95% street bike,, I can,, and will back road it MOST of the time,, but there will be Highway speeds SOMETIMES,,, I am a 195 lbs or so,, what should I look to do to get the most out of the Bike?

Should I do a gearing swap? I have read of fork braces, What does everyone recommend?

Dealer wants to sell me KAWA extended coverage 3 years for ~$300,, zero deductible,, my initial reaction is no,,This bike,, if I am correct,, hasn't changed much at all,, And seems to be pretty reliable from what I read. I have been a wrench my whole like,, did it for a living for about 16 years, should I blow it off and save the $$$? AND if I do decide to do a big bore kit,,, well I don't need the warranty hassle.

Thoughts and opinions?
Thanks,
Tom

I would use the $300 for Farkles, if you are going to have warranty issues they will pop up in the first year (standard warranty). I use my 09 for 100 percent highway use, I have Shinko 712 tires, 16 tooth front sprocket, and my next purchase will be Vista cruise. Congrats on the new purchase!

I agree with Timothy, do not get the ext. Warranty. Are you getting this from Cherry Hill cycle world by any chance? If so, I know a guy....Congrats!!!

Welcome to the brother/sisterhood Tom. Why don't you ride it for a while and then decide what you need? The 16 tooth front sprocket is an inexpensive and worthy investment for road riding. It dropped my RPM's from 4400 to 4000 at 60 mph. Since most KLR's tend to start using oil at prolonged high RPM's, this has helped reduce consumption greatly. I'd skip the extended warranty plan myself. Since you are an accomplished wrench, there won't be anything on the bike that you won't be able to take care of. Use the money for good protective riding gear - ATGATT. Get your posts up and let us see some pics of your new toy!

Extended Warranty

My understanding is that you can purchase the extended warranty anytime within the 12 month standard warranty. You might want to confirm that with the dealer or with Kawa online. I'd also agree with the others about riding it and figuring out what options/changes you "really" want. In the mean time, have a blast!

Yep,,, dealt with Mark by phone,,, If I can I plan to get up there Tuesday,, if so Mark is off and told me to see Tim. The e-bay price went up,, but Mark honored the price quoted to me earlier, $4895 brand new left over 2011.

Ok, so a couple of things I am thinking of,,, way back before the girls were born it never seemed to matter,,, but I am thinking of putting a headlight modulator on the bike,,, and probably a brake light flasher.
Should I pickup a 16t from the dealer,,, or get it after market? If AM who is a "preferred" company to deal with,,, it has been 12 or so years since I have played around with bikes, and AM parts. I am planning on getting a new brain bucket, my Shoei RF700 is pretty old. How are the Kawa KLR bags? I read a lot about fork brace,,, should I go for one?

Thanks,
Tom

Going up today (leaving here in a couple of hours) to pickup the KLR, should be home and tagged by 2 if I don't goof off too much up there.

Thumpers are different bikes to ride that's for sure,, my ST1100 was as soon as movement started I could release the clutch, this KLR needs some throttle during the entire clutch release. No biggie,, just something I had to get used to. Only got 10 miles on it today (running it down to tag and title, and gas it up) before I had to take the family out to dinner, but so far I like it,, a lot.

OK,, so I am looking to upgrade the brake light at a minimum. I see these WOW kits, and also LEDs that just replace the bulbs,, but have the flasher built into the unit.

Also, found a brain bucket I like,, and gloves, but not so lucky with a new jacket, I like my old Hien Gerick Paris to Dakar,,(brown) but it is a size 52,, I am now a 40 - 42, has anyone ever had a jacket re-sized?

Thanks,
Tom
