I have an 08. Before that my ride was a 73 Honda CB450. I am not a wrencher, although I wish I was. I have a 6 week old baby, so I am sleep deprived. OK, those are my disclaimers.

Apparently I DO have an oil-burner. Checked it today. It had been WAY too long since the last check. The oil level was just above the bottom hash mark. Filled correctly, it sits just below the top mark. I'm new to this oil bubble thing. How does that correspond? My conscience is killing me and maybe my bike...:18:

Did I hurt her?

You're fine. Bottom to top of the glass is like 4-5 oz.. Being in the glass is more than safe, and as long as it was in the glass, or even close to the glass, and you've done no damage whatsoever to your bike..

Just keep an eye on it.. It might quit using a bit of oil, and since it's new, burning a bit is pretty much expected..:)

My 07 was a burner too. Just the nature of some of these KLR's. Now I always kept my oil up to the 'top' of the site glass, just made me feel better. Yeah some might flame me for doing so, but I don't think that bit extra is hurting it, but let me go longer between having to add some. I also got into a habit of having a quart or half a quart with me on long rides. The one reason I started using Castrol 10W40 that I could buy at autozone, O'Reilly's, etc. Instead of hard to find Kawasaki oil. The Castrol also seemed to stay cleaner longer before getting darker. OK enuff of my ramblin. Keep your eye on that oil level. Oh, check the tire pressures often too.

That's a load off my mind. And I did check the tires today. They fared better. ;)

I can stop asking my wife to hold the bike level for me now. All topped off.

Thanks for the quick responses. You can bet I'll be checking it more often. That's the nice thing about the Honda, even with the dipstick you can never really be sure. :16a:

I love reading older threads!

This is just one of many examples.
Have ALL of your oil questions and Then Some, been ANSWERED, Lockjaw?

"I hate dipsticks", Do I screw it in? Or do I just "dip it"?
It is in the owners manual, which is 1252 miles AWAY!
'Better safe than sorry', just dip it, and fill it to the TOP LINE!

Over-full is always safer than, under-full! If it doesn't like it, it'll puke it or burn it.

God, I hope I never stop asking questions. That won't happen will it?

BTW, that six month old is seven now. :surprise:
