HELP...I have a 2008 with only 760 miles on it. I noticed an oil leak coming from the rear swing arm left side. The oil is clean like engine oil. I traced it back to where I see it starting which is under the battery box. The looks like a short tube that is pinched off with a clamp. It's not the air cleaner box drain tube as I checked it and no oil in it. The bike is out of warranty. Any ideas or suggestions on how to stop this annoying leak:confused:

Z,
Wipe everything down squeaky clean then a short ride to trace the source.
I emphasized short as you only want a trace showing, not a mess to sort through.
Once that's nailed down, post your results and we'll (as a group)
go from there. I'm still learning, but there are many others on this site
that literally know evey bolt on the Killer650.

There are 2 pinched off tubes on the air box. One is at the bottom near the middle, another is just below the air box intake behind the the left passenger foot peg mount, and a third long hose that travels all the way down to just behind the right foot peg. I think you are describing the one behind the left passenger peg mount.

The oil could be from an over oiled air filter. If so that is not a problem and the oil drip will stop. Pull the left side cover off and use a flashlight and look into the intake and see if oil is pooled up into that area.

Oil can get pushed up into the air box from the crankcase through the crank case breather tube. Check the oil level and see if it is overfilled, above the top mark on the sight glass for the oil level.

If the bike is not using oil then it is most likely from an over oiled air filter or it is not really motor oil but something else put there during assembly or set up.

The air cleaner box is dry and I squeezed out the air filter excess oil into a rag. I still have the leak but it does not seem to affect the oil in the sight level. The level is still about the same as always...below upper and lower levels.

Thanks for all inputs. I pulled the sproket cover and it is not leaking from there. I traced it backe and took some pics today of the area of leaks. I took out the air cleaner again and wiped it out. Not much oil left in the air cleaner. I'm going to leave the filter out for a couple of days without riding to see if that leak still persists.

Does anyone know what the tube with a clear area that says 'up' on it? It is conected to another tube hanging under the middle of the bike. I followed it up and it seems to come from under the air cleaner box after the screen andd foam filter area. Go to the following site to see the oil photos. It will not let me post direct link since I don't have 15 or more posts.

Zman,
The 15 posts before posting a link is new to keep the spammers from posting links to porn on all pages of the forum.. Or at least try to slow them down...:) Sorry about the hassle, but we've been getting hammered and we had to do this.. :(

The clear bottle with the word up and the arrow on it is a catch tank for excess oil or accumulated water in the air box. At the end of the hose coming out of the bottle there should be a plug. If the bottle has oil or water in it the shop manual says to remove the plug and drain it. Remember to put the plug back because if a lot of oil gets into the air box it can drain down and blow on the rear tire.

I've got to say that is one clean looking bike.

That's what I thought but I found out there is a short 1 inch tube coming from the bottom of the air box that drains the oil from the foam element over flow. I followed the clear tube thing up to the air box but that tube goes to the air intake after the filter and the hard screen. So what's the clear tube for???

Oil in the air box comes from the engine through blowbye tube that connects to the upper left side of the air box. If it is significant excssive oil you might have it checked for warrantly work. some '08s had ring issues and I have seen an '09 or two with these symptoms.
