How much difference does a 16 tooth sprocket make. I just got an absolute steal on a 2000 KLR and it has a 16 front and 42 rear sprocket. On my stocker I feel most comfortable at 60 on the highway. Can I expect to feel more comfortable at 70-75 with these changes?

Put a 16 tooth on mine and my buddies KLR's. We think they are the best mod we have done yet, but it personal preference. You will be looking at about a 400 - 500 RPM drop at speed. Can now do 70 @ 4400 rmp and 75 around 4600 rpm +/-. 60 mph is around 3600 rpm. I gained about 5 mpg average, depending on how hard I ride it. You will lose some torque, but if you are not doing any trail riding you will be fine. If you intend to do some off road, you may want to go back to a 15 sprocket or even possibly a 14 if you plan to be off road more than on. Hope this helps.
