If you have a pre-08 oil burner, did you smell the oil burning before you noticed oil usage visually? This morning as I did my pre-flight inspection, I got a whif of something that was remeniscent of our old 67 Ford Ranchero, when the rings went bad. It's the first time I've smelled that from the bike. It's pushing 40,000 miles.
I've got the 685 ready to go but I was just curious about the smell as a possible precursor to bad rings.
Thanks

There is burning oil and there is blowing oil. Burning oil is obvious. Blowing oil can be caused from high RPM buzzing of the engine.

Install the inexpensive PCV mod and see if it helps with oil loss.

I need some clarification on this diagnosis and description, and a explanation of the mechanical remedy, if possible.

Thank you in advance for your response.
