Ok, this is probably a question which has been dragged over hot-coals countless times over the net, but value the opinion of fellow those here. :t1204:

I have always had a decent exhaust system or slip-on on any bike I've owned, and am a bit disappointed by Kawasaki's offering for the '08+ KLR650. I really miss the sound of an engine as it should be (not what the authorities intended), to be perfectly blunt. I've been weighing up many options, and for this purpose I have favouritism towards a Yoshimura slip-on pipe due to using their cans for a long time. However for similar dollars delivered, a BigGun full exhaust system is a viable option, as are a number of others.

I should mention that I am not after any significant, nor any genuine power-gains...this is not the bike to consider such matters, and riding technique will clearly make the bigger difference. I don't want decibel decimating, just for a big thumper to sound respectable. :35a:

I would like to hear any of your thoughts, opinions, installation issues, any improvements to the bikes performance, blah blah. :D

Cheers for the quick reply Spec! I'm not the typical KLR owner trying to cut costs though...I've chosen the bike for its simplicity, cheap running costs, axe-proof reliability, over 20yrs of evolution, got the newer model, etc. That's why I mentioned that power-gains were irrelevant due to riding technique. ;)

Cost-wise, and even including delivery and putting up with stupid delays to get parts from overseas, it's money well spent for me on this bike. It's going to be doing desert navigational rides, as well as a "lap of Aus" in november with a mate, plus many more trips. I chose the bike, not my wallet...a new armed to the teeth BMW F800GS was my first pick, but the simplicity of the KLR won me over.

I don't mind dumping $300+ on an exhaust (plus delivery) to make it sound right, and at the same time I save a heap of weight...the weight saving counterracts what I'm fitting in the way of protective gear to the bike, which is a gladly welcomed trade-off. ;)
