Personally if I take something apart to fix one piece I will replace everything inside and keep the old as spares. It's apart why not spend the little extra time to make it new.

I understand that to a certain point, but you could also say while your at it why not replace the bushings, the spring, the presta valves etc, etc. the list goes on. I guess the real question should have been, is the wiper a wear item or does it only need replaced if damaged. If it's a wear item, then yeah it makes sense to go ahead and replace it, but if it only needs replaced if damaged, then why replace a perfectly good part. You can start squandering a lot of dough swappin parts for the heck of it.

Sorry I will qualify that a little better. If it is a consumable or wearable part I would change it. IN your case if there are no signs of wear and you are comfortable with the seal then leave it be.

It is a wear item and if you are having a leak I would go ahead and replace it.
