Brand new owner here. Picked up my bike a week ago (2009 model) and today did some service work. I was shocked to find the air filter sitting loose inside the air box. It's a K&N so not sure how it differs in shape from the stock model but what I found was that the nut that fits into the plastic castle to accept the bolt that retains the air cleaner was not attached in any way. Thus, the previous owner must have given up trying to get it (the nut) to stay in place and just left it loose! I mixed a little JB Weld and glued the nut in place waited 15 minutes and put the thing together no problem. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this problem?

I think it's pretty common. It happened with mine, anyway. I just used some Gorilla Glue on the nut and it's stayed put.
