Hiya, my bike has leaked exhaust around the cone since I got it last year, but it seems to have gotten worse over the last several weeks and seems more sooty.

What am I looking at here? Simply tightening the screws holding the cone? Add some sealant, then tighten the screws? Re-pack it (I have no idea when or if it's ever been re-packed)? Burning too rich? Burning oil?

Joints in exhaust systems are prone to leakage. I like my quiet oem boat anchor.

since you don't know the condition of the packing, I'd repack it but that isn't your issue.....just take the end cap off, smear on some hi temp silicon and put it back together

some soot is normal due to the coasting enrichener, but that's excessive it seems.

pretty typical of the KLR until the carburetion is properly sorted.
