So my oem tires are due for replacement and the tire spec says the rear klr takes a 130/80-17. The rear tire I am looking for only comes in 130/90-17. If I am understanding tire sizing correctly this will only make the tire a bit taller. Correct? I should not have to worry about swing arm clearance right? Thanks.

That's the size I run using a 705. It clears the swingarm.

Honda's VF1000R was the first motorcycle to wear radial tires in 1984 in Europe only (the U.S. VF1000R had bias ply tires). That was the year the KLR 600 was introduced.

Michelin started making radials for motorcycles in 1987, the year the KLR 650 was introduced.

You can put 5.10-17 and 3.00-21 bias ply tires on the KLR. Bias ply tires have an aspect ratio near 100.

I've installed Pirelli scorpion trail II 140/80/17 which is wider and taller, two weeks ago and it's great. No problems clearing swing arm.
