Bringing this back up; talked to navydive and we'd like to get a tech day going in spring 2017. At least one doohickey will be getting done. I have a laundry list of things to be done. You can show up and wrench, learn, teach, or just shoot the breeze. I have spoons so we can do tires if you're hankerin'. Or we can turn it into a real crap show and race to spoon off/on new tires. Who doesn't love bloody knuckles?!
I'm in the SW area. Roanoke-Bedford. I'm not positive my doo has ever been replaced and I've been meaning to take a look, so I'd be interested in something like this for sure, since I don't own the "special" tools required for the doo.
Will the doo/spring be available for purchase at the tech day, or is that something people need to acquire beforehand?
Any plans for where it will take place yet?
I'd be interested in going whether I plan to work on my bike or not. A good ride and nice day with like-minded riders is always a good time.
It's a bring your own kit. If we put this together, I'll try to find somebody who has the doo tools we can borrow. I bought the Eagle Mike kit online and found somebody local with the tools. He sold his KLR so not sure he has the tool still. I'm posted up on another site too and I'm trying to figure out where/when we can make this shindig happen!
OK, that's cool. I'll go ahead and take a peak and see what I've got going on and see if I need to order parts then.
Like I said, I'm up for showing up either way. If you can't get ahold of the tools give me a shout. I've got a buddy on another (non-KLR) forum that will loan/ mail me Doo tools, so there's that option to have them on hand for the tech day.
What is the basic idea so far? Is it just a one day thing, or bring a tent and make a weekend of it? I'm definitely interested and willing to help out with anything I can do.
