I'm looking at the 3rd weekend in May for a overnight trip. Here's what I'm thinking. Leave the Des Moines Area Friday afternoon, May 23rd, head to Bussey 60-70 miles southeast of Des Moines. We can either go the the atv park and or the farm, about 5-7 miles NE of the atv park. I'll need to check out the farm ahead of time to make sure there are places to ride. Its been about 25 years since I've been on some of the best places to ride on the farm. We can camp either at the farm or at the atv park. The farm has a couple of creeks a few terraces etc.. My buddy in Ankeny, who is not a member here yet, will go. The only problem with the atv park is that all riders must display a valid Iowa OHV sticker. Check out this website for info on the atv park www.atvaonline.com/Ride/BluffCreek_IA.asp

There are also a few video clips on youtube.com. Search for Bluff Creek Bussey Iowa.
Let me know if you're interested.

My wife reminded me that the 3rd weekend in May is Memorial Weekend. We're not going anywhere, so that works for me.

Have you ever been back on the trails in Bussey? I'm not planning on doing much riding on the mx tracks, but would like to check them out. Figured that would be a bit over my head. It looks like the website was saying that bathrooms and showers were going in last year. We could also look at Rathbun, about 30-35 miles southeast of Bussey. We certainly don't have to go to Bussey. If you have someplace in mind, I'd be happy to go. I just want to ride, desitanation don't matter

My buddy in Ankeny knows a klr guy in Des Moines, who is planning a 3 day group trip into Missouri and back (all back roads). Apparently not a member here. I'll let you know if that developes.

Hello Men, Well I may be able to find some time to go riding with you fellas. I have rode Bussey a few times on quads but not on my KLR. I'm not sure you would need an offroad sticker as our bikes are licensed. The trails at Bussey would probably be a heck of a workout on a KLR as they are heavy bikes. I'll watch this tread and see what happens.

short ride

Ya, I've gotten out a little. You might have seen my post last week or so. Haven't put 30 miles on it, the clutch cable broke at the motor. Got it replaced. The cable was 8 bucks at Struthers. Can't wait to see another bike though. The clutch shaft going into the engine is not flush with the top of the hole. After a bit of adjusting, the clutch works just fine, but I can't imagine that it would be waterproof. I can't wait to see a another bike or at least a close up photo of the clutch shaft, (not sure what the correct verbage is for that particular part). Without the cable attached, I can rotate the shaft back a little bit and it falls in flush with the top of the hole. It might be fine, I just never looked that close before it broke.:mad0235:

i got a ride in week before last, rode the big dog up to the dealer in hubbard (bout 40 mi.from me) droped it off to get a little work done. theyve got it done but i dont think the weather is going to cooperate to get it home to soon, if i get desparet i might have to take the truck up to get it but he just hates to ride in the truck. hoping it will warm up enough next week that i can start riding it full time. any way ive got my fingers crossed.
