The motorcycle slipped by 5 meters and thus the crash bar was bent. The bike is from a motorcyclist friend. He received no injuries or serious blows.

Bars can only do so much but I'd much rather have that bike the way it is than if it didn't have crash bars as the damage likely would have been much worse.

Not sure what you mean by “slipped by 5 meters.” Do you mean the bike fell from a height of 5 meters? If that is the case, then I would say the crash bars did a remarkable job. What brand are the bars?

What, exactly, was the damage to the CARBURETOR?

As in, cracked casting, etc.

Looks like, possibly, the carb may have been only disconnected from its rubber hose "manifolds," no obvious carburetor per se damage obviously visible to me; not saying it ain't THERE!

A 15-foot fall? Not sure I'd want join THAN trail ride, given my lack of skill and competence.

I'll suggest that that crash bar & bag bracketry did as good of job as possible if you were in rocky terrain.

Without the forward crash bar the forward shroud probably would have been ripped completely off the bike & the tank majorly dented.

Best to CHECK the wire bundle going to the fairing, between fuel tank and coolant reservoir bracket, is Not Trapped and rubbing on the tank seam, Dicky.

Yes, the bar touched the carburetor. It did not cause rupture, just moved it a little bit. What I did not like was the direction where the bar was bent, entering the area of the engine.

If considering SW Motech for better placement of bars, also consider Alba Racing's KLR crash bars. I picked these up last year for my gen 2. Same geometry, better bracing, easier install, less expensive ($164), Calif. company. Works with skid plates designed to work with SW, and no vibration at all, too. A better version of SW in my opinion.
