I just got back from a 1200 mile circumnavigation of SoCal.

Dave rides a Suzuki C90, I'm, of course, on the KLR.

We hit a few of the good roads. 33 out of Ventura up to Cuyama Valley, 46 from Lost Hills to Cambria, route 1 from Cambria to Carmel, Carmel Valley Road, 25 from 198 to Gilroy, on over to Mariposa on 152 and up into Yosemite, over Tioga Pass. Once down into Lee Vining we scooted down 395 to get on home.

The Zuke got better gas mileage than the KLR (which averaged 46 mpg) but scraped the foot boards a lot.

If you haven't gone down to Gilroy and ridden south on 25, then come up the 101 to G14 and ridden Carmel Valley Road, ya just gotta go do it... three times.

I have done it. Been awhile. Epic, I agree.

Certainly smells that way. A few other towns might argue, but they'd probably lose. Tough to top garlic ice cream.

Not really.

A bit of horseradish, some scallions, a caper or two...

Speaking of capers, stay tuned.

I got to spend about 3 months in Santa Cruz back in 01, and we cruised up through Gilroy once. We missed out on the garlic festival, though. Crowds were too big.
I would LOVE to go back on the KLR..
