So I'll likely open up a can of worms here. Maybe I should check the forum rules and see if politics is a No, No topic.

Being here in Canada I watch the election activity in the USA with popcorn in hand. I don't think I'll ever figure out how it works. Seems like the campaigning starts all over again a month after an election is final.

Anyway my curiosity is in who is going to be the next President. Seems like Obama may be on his way out, yet 4 - 6 years ago the frenzy around the guy was almost scary. I had him pegged as the anti-Christ.

So who's good for America?? Which way are you voting?

Remember to keep it cordial. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. No way I want to start a forum war. If it goes that way I'll delete the thread. I have the power.

You're a brave man.. I'm too chicken to start a topic like this.. Seriously.

My response to this question is as follows..

The quote was, "When is Barack Hussein Obama going to tell the middle east to stop clinging to their guns and religion?"

For those who don't recall, that's what he accused republicans of in PA,
back in 2008.
Not that I like Romney, but I don't like the Anti-Christ.. Didn't like him when he was my state senator, my federal senator, and I don't like him now..

On the other hand, if he wins the election he can finally quit campaigning, since that's all he's done since his first attempt at office..

When I didn't like him years ago, it was because I was being "Racist".. Now that even the black voters don't like him, what's my new title??

And yes, I am being as nice as I can be..

On the other hand Paul Ryan is from Janesville, WI (8 miles from where I'm sitting at work, right now) and I'd carry him on my back to Washington, if asked..:)

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (9/11/12) When the DNC came to Charlotte, area churches, 100 of them, offered hospitality, not knowing how much the Dems hate God and would actually boo God at the convention. They had no idea how that hatred would be directed at them and their churches.

The Sunday before the DNC, over 9000 people had come together to pray for the convention. Then, wanting to extend hospitality to the visitors to their city, 56 of the churches set out to Adopt-a-Delegation. They put together gift baskets featuring Carolina Pralines and a letter welcoming them to the city and offering assistance in transportation, childcare or spiritual matters.
According to writer, Todd Starnes, The DNC banned the churches from distributing the gift baskets to delegates because, DNC said, the congregations hold values that are contrary to the party platform. Read that carefully.
David Benham, one of the organizers of the outreach said, We were just trying to display Southern hospitality. DNC officials, however, conveyed to city leaders that the Christians would not be allowed to present their gift baskets.
Even the Charlotte Mayors office jumped in to tell the churches not to participate, saying that their views on womens rights are contrary to the platform. Thats right….the same platform that booed God later.

Benham then asked if they could send welcome letters to the delegates. Again, the DNC refused, because, they said, The churches hold pro-life values. The baskets did not contain a single political or pro-life message. They just wanted to give them regional candles and a welcome letter. The DNC refused to return numerous phone calls seeking comment.

But it gets worse. When a gathering of 200 Muslims showed up to pray for the convention, the Dems welcomed them with open arms and the liberal media gave extensive national coverage.
It is ironic that this day, in the shadow of that Islamic prayer event, we commemorate the greatest tragedy in American History, when Muslims attacked America on September 11, 2001, brutally killing thousands.of innocent people.

Muslims who publicly state their hatred of our country with fierce determination to kill us all and put America under Sharia Law, are welcomed by the Democratic Party while Christians are pushed out of sight like criminals because they respect life and hold family values.

These are the same democrats who want you to vote them into office to direct the United States of America and every life from beginning to end. It is obvious that we must not let this happen.
Our thanks to Rev. Ed Berkey (retired) who alerted us to this story.

I think the US has some pretty serious issues in Government, and that those issues are the result of over 100 years of Democratic and Republican party platforms. Both platforms have evolved tremendously over the course of history.

Essentially, we've had a toggling of Democrat/Republican government that pretty well follows term limits - four years of Democrat, four years of Republican, save for the FDR and the Reagan periods.

I often wonder if John Kennedy would recognize today's political parties, or if he'd be confused.

I'm not a big Romney fan and rather wish that Ryan were the presidential candidate and Romney the VP.

As to Obama, I won't say anything at all, especially something controversial like "he's a foreign born Communist".

If you are concerned for the next four years and wish for a return to a more conservative government and hope to perhaps stem the tide of Socialism , then you need to vote Republican.

My wish is to undo some of the political evolution that has occurred in the past 100 years and my concern is not for the next four years, but for the next 100 years.

For that reason, I'm a Libertarian. A pretty liberal-to-middling Libertarian, but a Libertarian none the less.

I know very well that the Libertarian party hasn't much of a chance to put a man in the Presidency in the near future, but I don't believe that voting for Gary Johnson is throwing my vote away. Rather, I believe that it is part of the political evolution that needs to occur in the next 100 years.

If we stay the course with the current two parties, it's my opinion that in 100 years America will become a Socialist country and devolve into a large third world state.

As to the Republican party (obviously, I'm a former Republican) I believe that on January 1st of 2013 the party needs to get itself organized and start looking for their next candidate. One who can be groomed to represent the party platform, one who has an unassailable history, one who can speak well in public and be counted on (with help) not to put his foot in his mouth, and one who can run a clean campaign. The GOP needs to get behind that candidate and support him over the next four years as "our man". Had they done that, we might have seen them pick a guy like Ryan.

That's not to say that we can't have an open Republican campaign for the presidency in 2016. The Newts and the Herbs and the Sarahs and the halts and the lames can, if they have the money, mount their own bids and the Democrats can have their fun outing their pasts and capitalizing on their gaffs. If the Republicans are to have a chance against the siren's song Socialism, though, they have to have "their guy from the git-go".

This is my last post in this topic..
I lied.. It's a Presidential thing to do.. :)

What burns me is this.. I've been voting since able, in 1983, and I'm SO TIRED of voting for the lesser of two evils..

November of 2012 we're making a choice between these two clowns due to a two party system (for the most part).. Seriously.. is this the best United States can come up with??

I fear that anyone with the real intelligence to run this country like it should is smart enough to not want the job, so instead we're stuck with the power hungry egomaniacs that only know how to do one thing.. Campaign..

Obama is a darned good speaker, as long as he's got a teleprompter in front of him to tell him what to say.. Romney... He's not even interesting enough to want to listen to, so I wait for the speech to be done so I can read it..

But are either of these two the quality the country is in need of to have as our Leader? Not even close..

The Republican party (and the Democratic party) will need to quit relying on the Flash-in-the-Pan representatives as leaders, and actually take a step back and bring in actual leaders.. This year's republican candidate is nothing more than the least hated of the bunch.. What a joke..

When I bought my home 13 years ago, I jokingly said I was going to secede from the nation and declare my 100'x100' lot the Land of Fred, ruled by my cat Annie... It's less of a joke every year.. Unfortunately the ruler of Fred is getting old and I doubt if she'll be around come spring..:( She's never lied to me, she lets me know when something's going down she doesn't like, and when I pay taxes (aka-soft cat food pouches) she lets me know she approves.. In return, she curls up next to me at night and gives me comfort..

Could she be a better ruler?? Sure.. I could do without the occasional puke, and if she could clean her own litter box it wouldn't break my heart..

But at least I know exactly what to expect from her.. I wish a Presidential candidate could be so trustworthy... (and that's from any party)

Speaking of party, what the heck am I doing discussing politics? I already know how I'm voting, and for most of us, no pissing contest is going to change our minds.. Democrat or Republican (it really is a two party race) we're not going to change our minds.. We hate the other side (hate's a strong, but truthful word) and our minds are closed because of our lifestyles, beliefs, and life experiences..

I was informed that a friend's niece married a guy last year, they adopted 3 kids and both were working, and paying taxes (like I do).. They then adopted 2 more kids, moved to Texas, and are now doing NOTHING, and making more money than ever through welfare and other entitlement programs.. They have no problem posting photos of vacations to Disneyland, Jamaica, Alaska, on Facebook, all of which is being paid by me, a working tax payer..

I'm tired of supporting those who are capable but refuse to work and be productive, and instead live off of my tax dollars..

I think it's time for me to jump on my Triumph for the weekend..

For those who don't agree with my political beliefs, that's your choice.. I'm not going to change your mind, and you're not going to change mine.. Argue my points all you wish because I don't care.. I wish I could vote today so all this election's crap would be over with.. :)

Pismo, I've voted for Ron.. I'd do it again, but only given the chance that it would do good in defeating the African Muslim.. (actually, I don't have a problem with Africans or Muslims, as long as they don't lie to me, telling me they're not either of them)

Or, if you're a Romney hater, it's one less vote against him..

I'd love to see a 3-4 party election, but that's if there's 3-4 folks that actually deserve to have the job. When it's lesser of two evils, one evil must be voted against..

Just like Rebar, I'm not voting for Romney.. I'm voting against Obama. I've been doing it since he came to office in IL and ran for US Senator.. I'll quit voting against him when he quits trying to take an office..

No matter what your flavor of candidate is the problem with America is not simply a reboot of Democratic nor Republican leadership with leadership being the optimal word!

It's entrenched dependence on government hand outs coupled with pandering of politicians to special interests and coruption along with greed. Is this a new phenomena to our system? :think1:I think not! Going back to George Washington administration the infighting was prevalent then as now. Perhaps not on the same lever but none the less it was present!

Why do the same individuals continue to get elected? Most people think the other guy is corrupt but their guy is doing a good job. Term limits for the President but not congress is ludicrous. Entrenchment leads to no accountability.

There are a myriad of other issues that could be discussed to better this country however I will reframe from going there:desismiley1:

Rebar -

That is a true statement.

The problem is, if everyone thinks that way, votes against a guy or votes for the lesser of two evils, nothing will ever change. The political evolution of the past 100 years will continue for the next 100 years.

It's not in our culture to think very much in the long term but I think it's something we're going to have to do.

It may be called evolution or revolution, but either way, I'll let it begin with me.

Voting third party is a hard choice, but a geometric progression could bring a majority to a third party in 30 years.

Libertarians have typically garnered but 1/2% of the vote, but one recent poll shows that Johnson could get as much as 5% in this election.

If nothing else (and see my comments above about what I think the Republican party should be doing in the next four years) that is a message that the Republican party should hear, as that is nearing spoiler percentage.

I would be happy to vote for a good Republican candidate again. Just give me one!

Fix the system.

Limit campaign spending
Limit all forms of donations
Limit campaign length, PLEASE!
No TV ads, PLEASE
Also, we need to do something about people in office campaigning, shouldnt they be working? Anyways, I dont know how to fix that without having a weird system like, be president for 4 years, then not for 4 years then run again??? idk anyways.

Now for voting

We need to change voting as well. For example in NH I will be voting for 1 senate race 1 house race and like 13 people for state government (NH has the largest per capita state congress.) Not to mention law changes, governor and some other crap. With all these different people and topics one needs to research there is no way any voter is an educated voter on all points. Not to mention all the people who vote but literally put zero effort into it. So, I propose a new voting system.

The population will be randomized and split up. Then each group votes on a particular race for office. This way we will have a better chance getting educated voters.

It's another lesser of the 2 evil's election IMO.... I say every single person that is holding any office should be voted out...we as Americans should repeat this process every 2 years until they Get it right... I know thats a little extreme but our government has failed us and we keep voting the same people in year after year...The President has done exactly what he said he would do...CHANGE ... yep thats right he changed everything alright ... Now I say we change all of DC and keep moving down to the local mayors and city councilmen until career politicians gets the point that when they put the people ahead of their advancements then they can succeed in public service....just my .02 cents

Can I add my penny and a half even though I'm not entitled to seeing as I gave up voting as it didn't matter in my eyes whether or not I voted or not.....sorry to upset the crowd who think it's your moral duty to vote and also that many have died to give us that right.....so please don't burn me at the stake. Or shoot me first before you light it up....thanks.

I have come to realize that all polliticians are liers and thieves, doesn't matter what side of the bench they stand on or what party the run for. It seems that once they have been voted in after promising everything that you could possibly want in this lifetime and the next, they set about breaking every promise and start filling their own pockets before they are voted out at the next ellection. OK, some may not fill their pockets to the top but some do for sure.
All I ask is to be told the TRUTH and tell me how it is...I can handle that much better than being lied to and treated like a 4 year old who for some reason is still in diapers. I like to think I'm smart enough to get the general drift of what anyone is trying to tell me about almost anything. Especially if it interests me. My future sort of interests me, I'm sure it does you too. So, please pretty please just tell me how it is. Don't sugar coat it, add frosting, paint it another colour....just straight from the hip!

The only politician I have seen so far who is hated by everyone is Toronto's mayor at the moment...Ford....I like him as he is pissing so many of the ordinary stiffs who are voted in because he won't take a dime or charge out all the expences etc that they are capable of doing and is making the rest look really bad for not following suit. Gotta love that about him if nothing else. No, didn't vote, so I shouldn't have the right to speak about politics. For the good or bad. I normally don't either...It's just not worth the effort. Nothing changes ever! The rich will always be rich and the poor will always be poor. Sure some do make it up a level if lucky to the middle class but the majority don't. They have figured out the system and are working it. I think it's the middle class who get the short end of the stick when politics are concerned.....the majority of the people, well used to be the majority any way....might not be soon the way things are going, we are down below that earning level with just the better half bringing home the bacon. But we don't have the expences most do any more. It's the middle class who get given the brunt of the responsibilties I think....they get the smallest tax breaks, forced to always pay a larger percentage, it just seems that way if you follow it at all...and I don't. I sometimes thing the commies have it better.....sometimes......I would get rid of all unions, they are the thing that has crippled the wage levels that have put our products out of reach for the rest of the world.....if we didn't have to pay such high wages to the work force we could possibly sell more of our products worldwide and be somewhat in the same ballpark...we will never be able to compete with wallyworlds manufacturers, but maybe get a bigger piece of the pie we are trying to eat from at the moment. I think also that the cost of living would also go down greatly if the cost to produce all of our daily needs went down, it has to. Would it....probably not...but it should.
So....do I vote, nope, won't ever again I doubt it. Unless I'm forced to by the very government who wants my vote. Then it won't be for them either!

We had a priminister named Trudeau back when I was young.......the women went stupid over him, did he do good for us....I don't know or care....but his son is now running for the same job....a very good looking young man with the right name. The old bitties who loved his dad will vote for him just because, the young ladies who like the look of him now will do the same and then maybe the old folks who just liked his dad's policies will vote for him too.
So....I will predict, our next priminister will be Justin Trudeau....sorry I not voting, well maybe just to get rid of the other guy .....:stickpoke::13:

Like I said I shouldn't say a word seeing as I do not vote.

I don't trust any politician. I am sickened by the process. Humans were meant to live in small tribes. There is no way to govern a country as big as the USA without the liars and thieves calling the shots.

I will vote, but as many have said, for the lesser of two evils. And I agree. If one goddamn person would just be honest, good and bad, I would care...but they would be shooting themselves in the foot.

We are guilty of many of the sins we fought the British over. The people are ignorant and care more about Kim Kardashian than the welfare of the people. The distribution of wealth is a joke.

If my wife would let us, I would leave America in a second.

But, where would you go to get it any better? Don't look up here above the border. We do have it good as a whole but....there still is the usual BS, there always will be.

I keep saying, I could live in an RV and fall off the face of the earth IF I had enough funds every month coming in electronically that I could pull from....no land taxes, which are a huge joke where we are......in a semi rural location with snow removal and, a black top road......not sure what else we get, oh sorry we are allowed one bag of garbeage once every two weeks for free and all the recycling you can gather. All for the low price of $4200 a year!!! I'd vote to lower that on it's own, but no-one will lower it will they!:13:

I don't know where it would be better. A small village somewhere? I know the best week of my life was spent in Negril, Jamaica. Not that they don't have problems, but it was a nice week.
