Just got back from a quick 1000 mile shakedown run on the KLR to West Texas where I did the Three Sisters run. Had a blast even though the temperature was a thousand degrees.

I thought the 16 tooth sprocket might be too tall once I loaded up the KLR with all my gear but it was just fine. Cruising on the highway was very nice at 70-75mph and going up hill in first was no problem at all so I'm going to stick with the 16t from here on out.

The vibrations in the handlebars were still buzzy so I'll probably order a bar snake which will cut that down although it is tolerable I wouldn't mind bringing the vibes down a bit.

Going to order a KLR dash as well as I'd like to bring the shield up a bit and have the dash to mount my GPS.

I'm in Houston and will be doing that run again in the fall...end of September/October time frame. If anyone is interested in riding along you're more than welcome. Will be camping out at state parks in the area.

Howdy. I'm new to the forum. I just bought a new KLR this evening. I live in New Braunfels. I typically get the first week of October off. Hit me up when you're making you run out to the Sisters this fall. If it's on a weekend or the first week of October, I most likely will be able to make it out if you want company for the ride. I had a 2009 KLR I used to ride out there regularly, but it was stolen last year. Glad to be on another KLR. It'll get around the Sisters much faster than the Ural I just traded for it! It's probably better for hill country than any other bike I have or had. I still have a 2001 Triumph Sprint ST and a Triumph Scrambler. The KLR beats those two for the area around the Sisters. And the Ural? I wouldn't trust to ride that thing out there. Not after how many times that thing left me stranded.

I'm always up for company on a ride. I'm really into motorcycle photography so I might stop more often than usual to snap some photos. The last weekend in September I'll be in the San Macos area to photograph a women's motorcycle rally. From there I'll be heading West probably on Sunday or Monday which would be October 1.
