Have a new KLR and looking to pick up a decent torque wrench for the tool box (already have the blue loctite ready). I'd like one where you can preset the torque value and it clicks when you get there or something similar. Anybody have a source for a well priced and decent wrench?

Sears Torque Wrenches

Harbor Freight Torque Wrenches

I have a Sears 3/8" that I've used for years without problems. I'm leary of Harbor Freight in general...

Torque wrenches are more accurate in the middle of their range and less so on either end. Most of the bolts on the KLR are in the 3/8" range. They're a few in the 1/4" range (8mm bolts) and a couple in the 1/2" range, the rotor bolt being one.

I've got 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2" Harbor Freight torque wrenches.. I had a Craftsman fail (didn't click when it should) and the HF's have been so consistant that we started using them at work.

I know it's luck of the draw on the Craftsman wrench and I'm not saying they're all bad. But I haven't had a bad one of the HF wrenches.. We have them calibrated to verify that they're within 2% of what they're reading, and they always pass without any changes needed..

Oh, and they're cheap, too.

Thanks for the inputs. I just got back from the local Harbor Freight Tools. Found and printed out coupons online that brought the 1/2" drive click stop torque wrench down to $11.99 and the 3/8" drive for $9.99. The 1/4" drive was out of stock so I didn't search for a coupon for that one yet but it's available online for $19.99. I used the 20% off 1 item coupon for a motorcycle dolly. Had 1 for the cruiser and got the second for the KLR. A lot easier to maneuver and store the bikes around the garage with the limited space in there.
