It's a new year, so we start a new thread. Who is doing something to their KLR today?

OK, so today nothing. I've got a burned out low beam headlight and won't get to town until later in the week (70 mile drive), to pick one up. Sooo....continued working on rebuilding my Mikuni 29MM Smoothbores for a few hours. Haven't had these carbs completely apart since I bought them in June 1980, and they are in dire need of some TLC. When finished they'll go back on my '75 Kaw Z2 750 RS street bike. It's in about a thousand pieces waiting for a new paint job....maybe by summer.

My Low Beam just popped as well 2 weeks ago (cold weather?) and I was shocked to find it’s just a standard automotive H7 Halogen bulb. Bought a brighter version on Amazon. Easy to get to thru the windscreen.
Not sure if it matters, but my KLR is an '09 Gen 2. Sure makes life easier to just order it on-line. I'm in the middle of no-where, surrounded by cattle. And I do mean the prime rib type!

Do I recall that you are a transplanted Canadian?
I never knew that Kawasaki ever brought the Z2 to North America! The USA never got the Z2.
As I understand it, the 750 was going to be the Z1, but Honda brought out the CB750 in 1969, so Kawasaki delayed the introduction of its New 4 cylinder 4 stroke street bike to Punch it out to a 900cc Z1 in the fall of 1972.
If you go to: Kawasaki Z2-750RS.web.com you can get the whole story on the Z2. I bought mine during my Air Force days, stationed at Misawa Air Base, in the northern part of Japan. They were produced mainly for the Japanese home market, since they legally couldn't sell the Z1 there because of the CC limit for their home market. I remember too many Japanese riders getting hurt on the 750 Triple rocketship. Mostly servicemen brought them back to the states, not that many here. You're right about Honda beating them to the punch with the CB-750 in 1969. Glad they re-grouped and made the Z1 and Z2, both excellent motorcycles. Oh, btw, I'm from New Hampshire originally, but I do have some long lost cousins that still live in Montreal.
The temp gauge yesterday said 37 above at my place but felt more like 27. Got a very short ride in anyhow and felt great to be out on the bike. Hadn't started the bike in two weeks but it fired right up on choke. Winter Storm headed our way later today with extremely bad road conditions. Was supposed to drive over to Billings (298 miles)...nixed that. Looks like a Beer, Pizza and Sci-Fi movie for the afternoon. Last project of the evening....started stripping the paint off my Z2 750 engine. Thinking about buying a vapor blaster, saw one at Harbor Freight two days ago that looked user friendly. Anybody out there have one and what do you think?

Installed the Camel 1-Finger Clutch Arm this afternoon and then got in a short hour and a half ride to test it out. Have to say I'm impressed with the smoother action compared to the stock unit. My left hand had been bugging me the last few months and this unit was the ticket. Watched the install video and it was a piece of cake with a few wrenches and pliers (and locktight), took about 20 minutes. I'll do an update when I rack up a few thousand miles or so, needs to warm up just a tad more around my place.

Nope. As soon as I get my phone up and running I'll post a shot or two.
