Haha I've seen those NiceCNC oil covers and it is tempting yes lol. I actually ordered those engine plug covers they make. I know its cheap chinese crap but figured they're just engine plugs what's the worst that could happen.
Yah I got the engine plugs too!! Also exhaust guard, swing-arm bolt covers, brake rotor covers.....hmm what else....oh yah a lever that helps you get the bike up on the center stand for those of us that are vertically challenged. So the oil cover was a must. Be careful though there are two designs. The one off amazon is the leaker that everyone talks about. If you order directly from NiceCNC you get the other design that has not had any problems that I'm aware of. I've got the Adventure model so all the green bling was just enough to break up the sea of black.
Went for a short ride yesterday the 2nd. Got to 50 degrees F. Rain washed a lot of the Salt off the Roads. Started to rain so I headed to a parking lot to practice slow speed balance, throttle, clutch control tight turning. She had a hard time starting after a few week sleeping

Gen 3 - Installed the R&G Tail Tidy & began prep for Yoshimura Exhaust install. Also fiddled around with the Eagle Mike quick jack...first time using one of these. The Enduro Engineering Skid plate doesn't really have a great place to jam this thing but for a slight bolt recess. I did get the rear wheel of the ground though....so success I guess.

Walked by a patted the seat. Snow slid off the shop roof and froze solid. Will be a couple months now til that door will open.

Did charge up all 4 of the bike batteries. Do that every 3 weeks to keep them fresh while in storage.

I held onto the handle bars as it pulled me hard down.... the ICE COVERED STREET! My Snowblower that is! Freezing Rain and a 2-stage Snowblower made for a combo where I was able to hold the Bars of it last night and it pulled me down the road! That's what you get when you remove the heavy wet snow! It started as freezing rain.

It needed more Horsepower though. It didn't have good acceleration off the line! ;)

3-5 more inches of SNOW today (after the heavy wet 8+ I moved last night)!!! We are 4 days into January an it's heading towards one of the SNOWIEST on record.... we have been getting Slurpies from the sky almost weekly it seems. Come on SPRING!!!

LMAO Willie, running my snowblower reminds me of spending a couple hours on the ole Buell. Hands are numb and forearms tinkle. Can't even drink a beer cause I'm still shaking.

I had a Buell S1 Lightning! The Hands weren't the ONLY thing that went numb after a longer ride! It took quite awhile before the old "manhood" got feeling back! ;)

It sure was fun to ride though!!!

You should identify as a snow bird and go south to avoid all that nonsense🤣
I went on a ride and finally broke past 200 miles. This means I don't have to worry about the max break-in speeds for 0-150 miles. I don't expect to come close to exceeding the 150-250 mile break-in speeds.

Twas not cold causing the numbness.... on the Buell S1 Lightning!

With snow storm after snow storm this year, I do agree on the snowbird thing!!! After Snow Blowing today, the snowbank on our corner lot is within a foot or so of the Stop Sign at the top of the pole! The joys of owning the corner lot! ;)

Changed to a LiFePo4 battery. Tired of replacing lead acids.
I shipped the top end from my 11/09 built engine to Eagle Mike for machining. I am tired of going through a quart of oil with every tank.

I installed Oxford heated grips, KLR 650 New style mirrors, and Denali SoundBomb Mini electromagnetic low tone horn. Just wondering if i should get Eagle Mike fork brace?

A fork brace makes a big difference. It’s the difference between wobbling as you hit tar snakes v riding the tar snakes.

oh yeah! I had a 1997 Buell S1 Lightening. Rode it new from showroom and had a flat spot around 3000 rpm, but once I installed a new air intake and exhaust the flat spot was gone and the bike was a blast to ride (for about 50 miles before butt got numb)!!! Sold it back in 2005.

for my current 2007 KLR650, haven’t started it since last year…..

Another cold ride today. 34 degrees. Just went out into the surrounding countryside and kept it under 35 mph. Still cold, but didn't crash on the ice.

Which is good, since I just wore my medium-weight Carhart jacket and 511 pants. Would have hurt to go down.

Glad to see I'm not the only crazy winter rider! I rode mine down to the lake and out to my ice fishing shack on New Year's Day. My only problem was getting back up the boat launch ramp/ access. It was polished ice from all the traffic. First attempt got me half way up and then a double dab slide back down. Miraculously I kept it upright. (luck!) I had an audience for the second attempt and with the words of one of my younger riding friends, "pin it to win it", echoing in my head I gave it a whole lot more gusto. Made it to the top in fine fashion. The only downside is that someone videoed it and sent it to my wife. I know she's going to use that the next time I try to convince her how much more responsible a rider I've become in my senior citizen years.

Well, I just bought my first, bone stock, 2009 KLR in November. So far it's Tusk bars/pannier racks, Vstream smoked shield, and yesterday a NiceCNC luggage rack to attach my bargain Givi 32L top box I found in Amazon for $100 bucks! The factory luggage rack had several nasty holes drilled in the plastic and didn't appear Givi friendly. Loving her so far!

Welcome to the KLR world! Be sure to read “Common mistakes for new KLR owners “ on the forum. Keep the sunny side up!
