It's a new year, so we start a new thread. Who is doing something to their KLR today?

That’s my exact setup, and it’s great! I also have a Yoshi. Very linear and smooth power delivery. I did lose about 3 mpg on the last two tanks, but that could be I’m just wringing her out a little more to enjoy that linear power curve😉.

Glad to hear it is a fun mod. I am running a stock exhaust so hope it isn’t too rich.

That sounds like fun! What trails are you riding there? I’m in Nashville and always looking for areas in the state to explore.
I have no idea...I have an old racing buddy that lives in the area. He's going to lead me on a few rides, take me to a few bars with live music..and...BTW, he rides a KLR too!

Sounds like a great time. Part of the KAT, TAT and SM500 are close by that area. Be sure to share with us who are still planning our first big spring outing. We can be jealous🤣

In the last month I did a lot! 685 honed, lapped the valves, new valve seals, new rings, MC mod, shims (of course), iridium spark plug, fixed lots of small issues, new front and rear sprocket, new chain. Have run it in, and now onto full synthetic oil. Results? So good. MC mod well worth it, bike no longer burning oil, and weirdly the oil seems to stay clean in the sight glass for a bit, it used to get dirty so quick!

Just me but.... I'd do the FIRST oil as a REGULAR Oil, NOT Synthetic. While many NEW, HIGH PERFORMANCE engines (Vette....) are coming from the factory these days WITH Synthetic Oil, regular Motor Oil can aid in the proper seating of the Rings and such.

I use a good quality 10W40 Oil designed for the Motorcycle Application (think Wet Clutch) for "Break-in" of a Fresh Top End/Rebuild and then a Synthetic after.

How do you like the 685? Where did you get it/what flavor?

First two oils were mineral, only got to synthetic after it was run in.

The 685 has been in there for about 30k km, it's good, but it burnt oil. Maybe I boofed the rings, but I think a valve seal went and it got a lot of carbon. It's a schnitz.

Trying to get my helmet cam set up and ready for riding season. I lost my old Akaso camera somewhere in one of three rigs and a 3-bedroom house and shop. Gave up looking for it and ordered the upgraded Brave 4 Pro and a microphone.

Before, I used a mount that went on the front of my HJC motocross helmet on the face guard. It worked very well and even picked up my voice well enough when doing under 30 mph in the dirt.

But with the new Scorpion modular, that old mount wasn't going to work. So the only choice I had was to mount it either on the bike or on top of the helmet. Mounted it on the helmet and it looks dorky, but works. Routed the microphone inside the helmet and think it might work.I'm skeptical, though of using in the woods since low-hanging branches are a real thing.

The mount doesn't look real secure, but it is actually solid. Will still likely run some paracord from the camera to the helmet just to be safe.

Edited to add:

I think I can use my old mount, which would be awesome...

Would love to try it out, but forecast is for rain and snow for the next 10 days. Sucks.
