ny to moab for the canyonlands motor classic

thought you all would enjoy the pics from my resent trip to moab, utah

i left ny on may 28th headed for moab utah, i was delayed 15 hours in chicago due to chain issues, but made great time after, only getting slowed down by high winds in nebraska and the tornado i ran into in sedgwick colorado. here are the pictures,

found the master link clip missing when i stopped for fuel and to lube the chain, i had hit some road debris between fuel stops.

the missing link

squaw pass just outside denver, what an excellent detour.

setting up camp in moab

meet and greet that first morning

mandatory group shot of the main group i rode with.

la salle loop road and sand flats road pics

yes, that klr stopped just as you see it, i think he wanted to check chain tension and his tires lol

WOW, you know how to make a guy wish he could head out tomorrow on a trip like that. I think myself and two or three of my buddies are planning on a Moab trip late next year. My buddy has been out there before with quads but I think he is more excited about taking the bikes this time. As for me it will be my first time out there. You have any advice for riding in the area? Remembering I am from the hills of Kentucky, LMAO....Three of us are heading out tomorrow for a shake down ride, making sure my buddies 05' KLR is up to snuff. We just picked it up in West Va. a couple of days ago. I would like to post the larger pics of it and mine, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet. Is there a size limit to the pics?

well, it depends on if your riding the bikes to moab, or trailering them, if you trailer the bikes, a good 50/50 tire will do well. if your riding, use a decent road tire like the kenda 761 and have your other tires shipped out, bike tires in moab are expensive. i'd really suggest a tire like the d 606 or pirelli mt 21 for the best results. if your a decent rider and confident, you can get by on tires like the kenda 761, but if your the least bit worried, use an aggressive off road tire. air your tires down, depending on the terrain, some places i aired down to about 12lbs, the white rim trail i aired down to about 18 due to the mostly rocky conditions. just ride within your ability and your gonna have a blast. if you ride the white rim trail, expect it to take about 10 to 12 hours to complete, a bit less if you dont take pictures.

Great, I appreciate the input, I do believe we will trailer them as there are others that will be taking quads.

one more thing, get a cabin at canyonlands camp ground, $40 a night with a/c, the camp ground is centrally located in town and good beer and food within walking distance. the cabins sleep 4.
