the route from my house... http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&saddr=pefferlaw&daddr=53.781181,-79.024658&hl=en&geocode=%3BFb2iNAMd7i1K-w&mra=ls&sll=43.524655,-79.255371&sspn=3.504962,7.03125&ie=UTF8&z=5

I am planning on leaving the last two weeks of August and first two weeks September to travel the
James Bay,Route Du Nord, and the Trans Taiga.
Hitting as much gravel/wilderness as possible.

Plan on camping as much as possible, doing the trip as cheap
as possible (trail food,no restaurants) and generally just long or
short days in the saddle, which ever suits me
Kay said this is a Testosterone trip and therfore not going :)

So if anyone is serious about spending some time in the North, rain or snow
I will be going. Any company is welcome for all or part of the trip.
My friend John is about 95% sure he can make it.So there is the possibility of two of us.Please consider the ride seriously if you are going. It is a self sustained area and, as the web pages say-Remote.
I have not traveled this paticular area but have spent days(as many as 30) in remote areas and it can be overwhelming to some.YOU are responsible for yourself and well being and that is something most are not used to..

Everyone Needs Adventure

WOW!!!

I like it! I thought Raddison was the farthest north...now I have another destination! Gas is a real concern now..no? What bike will you be taking? What are you planning on doing about the gas issues? Why so late in the summer? Just to beat the bugs? How long of a trip time wise are you thinking of? I like the idea of being isolated for that sort of distance, a bit like my old days in my Jeeps, going for days in the bush.
Very interesting for sure! I want to get as far north as humanly possible if I can when I go.....just to say I have riden that far north. A goal...you need a goal on adventures like this! IMHO.
And yes..it takes commitment for sure...no one should go if you think it might be too much for you. It will not only ruin your trip but the thrill of your riding buddies!

Hi ya Willys,
Yes,gas is a concern.I have been in contact with a fellow over on ADV who has done the trip and we have talked about fuel.I'm currently working on a couple of ways to carry extra fuel without just strapping on 2 2 1/2 gallon jugs on.You interested? I will be taking the KLR. Love my Tiger, but have always takin the klr on extended trips.Alot to be said for a 21" front wheel.I am going so late in the year to beat the black flies. If I can leave a little earlier and still beat them I will.Living where you do I'm sure your familiar with the little bastards. They are beyond annoying.I will be camping,Rain, snow,or sunshine the whole trip.

On another note.I grew up with jeeps in our family as long as I can remember. My Grandfathers family vehicle was a Willys waggoner and also a willys pickup, vintages in the early 60s.My first drivable vehicle was a 58 cj5.

Just sold this past summer a 61 willys pickup. Well, most of it was a 64.
I'm currently jeepless now,but always thinkin of them

I am definately interested but it will all depend upon employment...or lack of...lol
The better half says I need to get some...lol But..I want to go on an adventure like this one....either earlier or when you go...the flies can be dealt with with planry of bug juice! Not nice but works. I'll have to wait and see. I have this open invitation on 3 sites, so I'll wait and see if anyone is interested in the trip north and how far they are willing to go...

The Willys pick-up is the last one I have left...I haven't driven it for the last 3 or 4 years due to the fuel costs..It lives in it's heated garage now patiently waiting to go for a ride...lol

I was trying not to drown myself with bug juice when I stop. If it's necessary so be it.When do the black flies die down to so called tolerable levels? One thing I was wondering about was the use of currency and Language that far north of the border? One can probably get by with language, but is the dollar accepted that far north?.I'll keep you in mind.Might even be able to meet up one way or the other.

I personally would be exchanging my $$$ because of the rate.....your $$ is worth more than ours at the moment....I don't know if they would not just take it as par otherwise.
Blackflies start around here the last week of May and go until they get a very hot dry spell, they need to get burned off. They are persistant little devils I will give them that!! You can wear all the bug juice you want, they may not bite you but when you get to bed..all you can hear in your ears is buzzing from them all day! It is a bit strange. It is a mental thing to be able to deal with them fully...if you let them get under your skin mentally.....you may as well give up. They will ruin your day for sure! Deet is your best friend in this case.....not good for you to bath in it for long periods..but for one trip up north...it won't kill you. Just think....I've been using it for decades...and look at me....well maybe that's not a good example!!! lol They used to say Deet was extremely bad for you years ago...now they actively endorse it....so go figure? West nile soon changed their tune....seing as it is the only thing that will stop them eating you alive!...lol
