Alaska with a friend

My Alaska trip plans has changed again (third time). I went from riding the complete route to breaking up the trip with a ferry ride from Prince Rupert to Haines. On April 20th I am riding from Sacramento CA to Bremerton WA visiting friends and places as I go. My friend, John, that lives in Kenai AK will be hauling a small loaded trailer to his sisters home Bremerton where we will meet on April 25th. The following days we are helping Dave, John's brother-in-law, roof two homes (his and an elderly neighbor) and enjoying the company. After the roofs are completed and the visiting is done we will be headed to Kenai. I will be both riding (good weather) and trailering (poor road conditions and weather) the five days it takes us to get home. After we get to Kenai we will continue preparing their home for sale and the vehicles vehicles for the southern journey to the Lower 48. I will not be riding my motorcycle the on the return trip since I will be one of four vehicles caravaning all of John and Barb's worldly goods. I will be driving a rusty Suburban and hauling a loaded three axle flat bed trailer (let us pray). Yes my long time friends have tossed in the towel and are moving to Oregon after a wonderful 27 years stay in Anchorage and Kenai Alaska. While in Kenai I will be visiting a few friends in Homer and Wasilla and hopefully can get some good rides in to enjoy the country. This will be my last chance since I have no plans on returning to Alaska. Photos and reports will follow as the trip progresses. Let me know of your favorite day or two trip in the Kenai area.

Ps - John and I went to different high schools though knew each other through a girl. We ran into each other at Keesler AFB during tech school in 1968. Surprisingly we had the same career field, graduated the same day, and got the same assignment to Eglin AFB Field #3 (Duke Field) in the Fort Walton FL area. In 1969 we both were transferred to MacDill AFB in Tampa FL. In 1970 the Air Force separated us by sending John to Germany and me to Japan and SEA. He got out six months early and I stayed an additional six months. After my late 1972 return were roommates until John married Barb in 1977 (?). We have remained close friends for all these years. Hopefully all of you have a friend as close to you as John and I are.

Just awesome. I agree on the friends.. the amount of them don't matter it's the quality of the ones you do have.. I am very lucky to have a few that if I drop the dime they are here no questions ask.. and I the same with them..

Have a wonderful safe trip and look forward to the photos and your return.

Good to hear that you are doing well. Some of the best plans I have carried out have been made AFTER I have made plans...

How cool that you are going to spend some time with your friend, John. I have friends from each place that I have lived and I keep in touch. One friend has visited here already with her husband. Another friend, Pam (from childhood) will be here in June for a week...we just reconnected last October after something like 15 years...good times, good friends...enjoy yourself, Tim!

Have fun, stay safe and yes, post pictures....lots and lots of pictures!!!
