Mendocino Nat Forest

Warning: Long winded.

Pictures on the way.

Just in case anybody wants to repeat a sweet day ride. We left Sacramento before 7am. Rolled up Interstate 5 – went west on Highway 20. Turned off the pavement to the north onto Bear Creek Road - just past the Highway 20 and Highway 16 intersection. This is where the ride began for me. Beautiful high speed dirt road for near 10 miles. Turned north onto Brim Road which took us up over a nice little saddle and down into Indian Valley Reservoir. After crossing Barker Dam, we took the second double track on the right (north) and were treated to a sweet 10-15 mile semi-technical double track with great hills to climb and views of the central valley. We took this all the way to Goat Mtn Road, rolled through what I think was some of the single track utilized at the sheetiron this year, many miles of single track, double track, combo of M5 and M10 put us at the Rice Fork of the Eel, which was too high to cross last time. We crossed easily and headed towards M1. Before getting to M1 we took advantage of more single track that took us into Penny Pines. From there, Lake Pills was 10 miles to the north. Time was 230. We had one tip over, and 2 good breaks...rest of the time was riding. We checked the lake and called it a day. Headed back via 16 through Cache Creek because I wanted to see if the other end of Reiff Road (Knoxville-Berry area) was good to go...my map showed Reyhouse / Reiff as coming into 16 just past the casino – which was in correct....Anyway, great day....lots of dirt. Next time I will leave earlier, not mess around with Indian Valley or any of the wrong turns I took, head strait through on mostlyl double track and singletrack from Stonyford to M1 at Penny Pines...from there over around the lake and over to to mendo pass / covelo looks doable....have to really haul ass to accomplish this and then continue down Sherwood Road to Fort Bragg....???? doable but challenging....We rolled back into sacramento around 7pm.

pictures and map on the way.
