Finally home!

After over a month of work on the road mixed with tons of riding I am finally home. And bonus for my 100th post (157th past life included) I get to post some pics of my mods and a few from the rides.

So my KLR is not only my learn to ride motorcycles but also my learn to wrench so my first farkel was kept very simple. Hehe

Sorry for the hole in pictures but I then was taken on a crazy long ride by my friends and taught the basics of what the heck I am doing and how to really get through twisties! This was the turning point in my mindset and comfort levels while riding. I went from, "What am I doing and when will I break more bones," to, "Now this is what I signed up for and is truly enjoyable!"

More work and then I finally got to get my crashbars on.

I really like these highway pegs! They cut down my leg cramping on the super slab and I get few more miles before needing to stop.

So with my crashbars on it was time to ride the most twisty roads around and do it leading the pack! Gulp!

Now for the really fun mod, the Doohicky! With my friends help it was way easy and done with in under an hour.

Then for a few days of riding every back road we could find!

Then with poking and encouraging I was able to conquer the trail that took me out in July. What a difference makes between just hitting the dirt for the first time ever and taking time to learn and understand how to ride in the dirt, makes. Just a few miles in and my fear was gone and before I knew it I blew by where I hit the ground and made it to the water falls. Then we hit the super tight single track to the peak and I got to experience everything from sand to boulders and every size rock in between! What a blast!

I can finally ride without cringing and fearing. Now don't get me wrong, I still very much respect the bike and understand I will be learning how to ride better for the rest of my life. I am super stoked I finally understand the basics and can get around corners and find water falls off down dusty dirt trails. Next, I need to work on keeping up, I am way too slow to do any group rides still. My friends were just kind enough to teach and wait for me.

The last farkel I did was my grips. I totally slacked on taking pics but it was the longest mod taking some 2hrs! The left grip was easy and done in 5 min but the throttle was insane! When they say they don't want you to mess with it they mean it! We ended up grinding the rubber off slowly with a bench grinder. Worked perfectly and the Pro Grip*737s I got went on easy. I LOVE them! The vibes are cut way down and the size fits my hand much more comfortably! I can ride without my hand falling asleep and have much better control over my throttle.

Thank you all for being so helpful! I can't wait to tackle the .22 cent mod next!

Thanks Tom! I keep going over the list of mods you can help with and I get antsy to get there and try them some day soon. This is going to be a fun winter!

Oh and I FINALLY got my peg mount fixed and had a far more comfortable ride then with the jimmy rig I had.
