A little ride in Northern California

Had a blast on some old forest service roads today between Foresthill and Colfax. Once we got above the fog, the sun was out and it was a beautiful day.

We went down Mosquito Ridge for a little ways then turned off into the dirt. A few miles in, we stopped for a break.

My bike seems to love this kind of stuff and the Shinko 244's hook up very well.

We had to turn around here cause it got too steep and there was a tree blocking the trail

Getting slippery.

Street tires dont grip so good in the snow.

Cool old wooden bridge. I dont know what all the cars are doing there. This is way out in the middle of nowhere. Probably fishing.

Thanks for the pics and commentary.....I'm jealous with snow forecast here tomorrow!!!

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on the Shinko's. What sizes are you running on the KLR? Save me the metric conversion, looks like 2.75-21 front and 3.00-17 rear? Any clearance issues? How do they do on the pavement?

Gray-haired riders don’t get that way from pure luck.

Let me intrude with some tire size info: The Shinko 244's that are closest to stock KLR 650 sizing, and offer no clearance issues are the 3.0-21 on the front, and the 5.10-17 on the rear. The 4.60-17 works fine on the rear if locating the 5.10-17 is a problem. It is about a half inch narrower than stock. I've put over 25,000 miles on Shinko 244's with no issues other than a wallet that has had the flow going out slowed down a bit. I've had very good experiences getting these tires from bikebandit.com. Flat eight bucks for shipping.

And TT120, keep those ride reports comin'!

I've got a 2.75-21 on the front and a 5.10-17 on the rear. They seem to work well on the pavement as well. I don't push real hard on the street on this bike. I have a sport bike for that. I got mine for $98 for the pair and so far I've been very happy.

Glad you like like the Shinco's, I new you would......there just a good 50-50 tire all around.

Next time Bill.....
