Where are the trails?

I live in Eugene, Orygun. We have hills and lakes and rivers and National forests and on and on. Where can I buy geo maps for the area? Fire roads are listed where. Saw a "County Map" long ago and it seemed to have a lot of dirt roads on it. Suggestions?

How would I locate groups that Adventure ride in the less paved arena? Are there any KLR groups in the vicinity of Eugene that you know of.

Thanks for your thoughts,
John

hey
as far as finding map of area.. go to your local GOOD hiking store = they should have a
DeLORME is a atlas&gazetteer,, showes all forest roads, hiking trials, and all the small little roads you are ways woundering where they go,,shows on here..

iam in N.C. am this is what me an buddys use along with simple gps.. an never get lost, well least find/know what way to head out....when do find new unexplored/lessexplored area!!!!
is great for planning new area to ride , or just figure out where you even where before!?!?!?!?

as for finding other riders (that do ride,,not just have pretty bike , sitting in garage, or only ride on some nice sunny sunday afternoon)..but like some say you are not a rider in less you ride in the rain.... so i always have that problem = as finding riders... but some bike shops help set up rides..and find local bike mag, we have one around here that shows alot of rides in about 500mile area..found most for cruiser type /poker/bar/toys for tots runs ....

but if want to ride,,just get out an ride=i always meet new folks when alone...even travel farther alone (not as many group stops).... when i stop ,an see other dual-sport bikers , will just stop an ask --where you from-- yes ,get some funny looks..because ALOT of riders around here are form other states,,not locals,,,most alot older than me,,,they are just up to ride/vacation..
but have meet some nice people..one older dude on bmw asked my what year is that? is that thing street legal(after coming out of woods all muddy) to get food/gas ??? ,,had to laugh an took min to explain,,cool old man!! an corse some that seem too good for klr ??

oh well doesnt stop me!!!! enjoy ya ride!!

Thank you WNC. I will do all of that. Hadn't thought about the bike stores/shops.

I have a GPS but the one I bought has too short a battery life and needs to be mainly plugged into a car 12v source.

I haven't bought a KLR yet. Am just getting all the "stuff" together in prep. Spent an hour looking at helmets today. Still looking. Thanks,

John

The US Forest Service in your area should have Motor Vehicle Use Maps and National Geographic have some great Trails Illustrated Maps
I find most of these map at a Bureau of Land Management - BLM office in the area I want to ride in.
I think the Motor Vehicle Use Maps are free.
I have found other great trail books at the BLM store that aren't put out by the government......ATV Trails Guide for Colorado and Colorado Trails southwest region.

The Colorado Trails southwest region book has trail difficulty ratings and scenic ratings

You might try http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/uma/recreation/mvum/index.shtml
