KLR Fest '08

As you all must know by now, I like to plan things in advance I was giving thought to where to hold the KLR fest next year and I've settled on a place that offers about 200 miles of off road riding that's legal as long as you have a tag and insurance. The event this year will be held in the Allegheny National Forest located in North western PA, the forsest does extend into NY but riding is illegal on the NY side. There is a cost for camping which depending on where we pick, will dictate the cost per night, generally speaking it will be either $10 an night or $12 a night for an unimproved camping area, or upwards of $20 for a campsite that has showers, the unimproved sites do have potable water, so washing up can be done, granted with cold water if you don't heat it up first. The two areas I'm considering are the rocky gap trail system and the willow creek trail system. Both offer good riding and camping. Town isn't far off so getting supplies shouldn't be an issue.

If your interested, let me know what you think. I think this area would be great to get people as far away as Virgina and NH. I have help this year, a buddy of mine from another forum who lives up the road a bit from me will be helping organize this over at .net as well. I will be posting this over on ADV. This event will be open to any and all DS bikes since we have virtually unlimited room.

I think I rode near those areas this summer on my trip up to the Adirondacks. They are not far from US6, right? I did an overnight on the way back at Layman lake near Galeton. Sounds like that would be a fun ride and area to explore. :-) If the group is small enough or crazy enough I bet we could get away with renagade camping.

I'd be up for renegade camping, easy enough to ride back into the woods a bit, but going off trail is really frowned on in the national forest, associated with rather hefty fines from what I hear. It's cheap enough for the camp sites. Not sure if they allow camping on the state land next to the national forest, that may be a good place as well if they do.

Marcia and myself plan on doing the east coast next year so we will watch for dates to see if we will be close enough to swing by.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

the event will be either at the end of May or first couple weeks of June. I've found that rather than asking whats a good time to hold, I just set the date, if people can make , they will. It worked well for this years KLR fest. I need to write the National forest guys and see if I can make some arrangements for a group reservation so we can get everyone at the same site. I'll front the money for the reservation and then guys can just settle up when they arrive. Since this isn't on my land this year, it will be a bit different, but just as fun. Definately more dirt trails to ride. We may have to deal with the ATV crowd a bit, but everyone seems to get along well there.

When the time gets near, say within 2 months, I'll ask everyone to pm me with their intentions, I will need a head count to make the reservation arrangements. I'm going to have a few prizes this year, one for most mods & farkles, furthest away etc. This will be much better than this years for sure.
