Canyonlands Motor Classic

Who is going to Moab UT for CMC? http://www.angelfire.com/ut/moab/cmc.html

Moto Photo and I are hopefuly riding together after we meet in Reno NV and will be sharing a cabin while we are there.
Sacramento to Moab = 900 miles
Klamath Falls to Moab = 900 miles

I would like to take Hwy 50, the Loniest Highway in America, though that add to the travel time. I-80 concrete or US-50 asphalt?

Tim, funny you mentioning Hwy 50, I was looking last night at the route that I had mapped out. Most of it is on Hwy 50
You should be able to take 50 out of Sacramento come up on the south side of Tahoe and into Carson City. It will be just as easy for me to meet up with you there instead of you coming into Reno. That is unless you want to hit the new Cabelas in Verdi, just west of Reno.
One of the deviations from 50 was to go through Silver City and Virginia City then back on to 50. The rest of the route is 50 to 24 to BUS 70 to Old US 50 to Ten Mile Rd to Blue Hills Rd to 191, what do you think? I am totally open to just about anything, let me know. I mean we are running short on time; we only have 3-months to plan this trip
By the way that route puts me at 1070 miles one-way, still not too far.

You have my attention. That route sounds good for me. I live less than amile from Hwy 50 and maybe five miles from the beginning of Hwy 50 in West Sacramento. As the sign says "Ocean City MD 3073 miles" http://www.route50.com/ . How many miles do you think we can do the first travel day?

edit: If we made it to Salina UT we would be 159 Google Map miles from Moab UT. Salina is where 50 meets 70.
edit2: 300 miles from your home to Carson City NV. 130 miles from my home to Carson City NV. My route is beautiful especially when I get to South Lake Tahoe and ride around the east side. I have ridden the SLT to CC many times on a bicycle and many times around Lake Tahoe (72 mile loop).

Yes we could with out any problem make it that far. Heck the way I ride I could make it from my house to Moab before sleeping.
I set my parameters for this search using the following (they can and will be changed):
Riding from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Stopping 15 minutes every hour (need to take pictures)
Riding slower than the speed limit
Anyway using these settings that would put us between Ely and Hinckley, Delta has more rooms. There again that depend on what time you get to Carson City, if we ride slower than the speed limit (I have never been convicted of that), how often we stop, if........if.......,if....., you get the picture. What ever sounds good to you works for me.
My plan is to leave Tuesday after work and spend the night with my brother in Reno. So I could be in Carson City when ever.

That is good to hear you are spending the night in Reno. I will be in Carson City at 7:00 Wednesday morning. CC to Salina UT is 541 miles or 11 hours. Any town after that would be agues if they would be open. Many of the towns are 200-400 population. Salina is 200+ population with three motels. If we rode all the way we would arrive way too late for anyone to be open to get the cabin. What do you think?
edit: it is 163 miles from Salina to Fred's.

Now that the planning is done, what am I going to do for the next three months?

Prepare your KLR and body. Pushups, situps, pullups, and a bit of running.

I have bunch of things to do to my KLR and a lot of work to do to me. Through the couch outside.

What tires are you riding for the road? I will need a new rear tire before the trip.

Tim, I am sorry, thought that I brought this up at Sears Point Tech day. I have a route planned out that will take me up to Roy. My wife will be there and we will spend 6-days with our son and his family. The more time with the Grand son the better.
Again I apologize, I thought you knew that already.
