CMC 2008 Tech Day

CMC Tech Day

Who will be using the CMC Tech Day?

Who will be helping at the CMC Tech Day?

What KLR Tech Day Elders will be assisting at CMC Tech Day?

There is no need to spend all of your time wrenching at the Tech Day though it would be good if you can offer some of your time.

Tech Day Elders are the backbone of any Tech Day and we can't expectone or two persons to work all day long.

If you know you want to work on your KLR at the CMC Tech Day take the time to post...
- ...what you want to do
- ...the parts you need
- ...if you need assistance

If you need parts and don't want to haul them. Order them from Fred ahead of time and pick them up when you arrive at CMC 2008.

This is a vacation for everyone (well maybe not Fred) and vacations should be enjoyable (definitely enjoyable for Fred and Arrowhead Motorsports).

I will likely be there (for whatever that is worth...). Hopefully, I won't need to work on my bike, since I am just now finishing rebuilding it.

Some people prefer to ride, but you never know who might be there. Last year, maybe 6-8 KLRs got worked on, along with several other bikes.

Marty, I hear you were a Huge help last year at CMC 2007. What rebuild did you do?

I need to adjust my valves since I won't have a chance before I leave as well as a oil and filter change.

It would be nice if the large group of riders would help for an hour or two before they ride.

I worked a lot on my wounded bike at last year's CMC tech day, and then puttered around with a few other folks... wouldn't say I was a big help to anyone. EagleMike was a bigger help to a few folks.

I can certainly help with your valves. Fred will sell shims if needed, I would think. I'll have all necessary tools. In fact, I'll have my wife bring my tech day kit with her (she's trailering to Moab), including some shims.

Oil change is nothing. Again, I would think Fred would have whatever you need.

Mike feels you were very helpful. How bad did you damage your KLR last year?

Thanks for the assistance. I will be hauling my own oil and filter and whatever. Tools I hope I can bring the minimum so I don't weight my KLR down. Yesterday I mounted two tool tubes on teh left and ride side of my Utah rack. Looks like rocket launchers though I think I want to put teh weight more forward near the front of the engine. The last time I did that I compressed the frontend and the front tire buzzed the tool tube. I will try and mount it lower.

Gotta get back to the garage, backyard and temps in the high 90's.

I had one fairly high speed laydown on an open part of the WRT that bent and broke stuff (the bike and me). Had another "oops" when I went partly off Hardscrabble Hill (also on WRT) by being a goober. I had to fix and replace a few parts (hard to ride with a broken clutch lever clamp) at the tech day.

No biggie; everything is fixable or replaceable (except for my dislocated shoulder--that still hurts).

I think Mike said he probably wouldn't be there this year, so grab me or someone to help with your valves is you want.

If Mike isn't going to be there who will coordinate the Tech Day and who will BBQ? This is a question for anyone.

Marty, we might be adjusting valves and possibly right side cleanouts on Thursday after we arrive. We can straighten the bent stuff later.
I don't know how old you are but a bad shoulder can be problem as you age. I have a bad shoulder that stopped me from paddling and competing in outrigger canoeing, swimming openwater distances, lifting any heavy weight, etc. Sometimes it hurts to ride, on or off road. Doctors want to operate and I say no. I definitely would if I were younger. Strengthening the muscles that support that joint can help.

The shoulder will likely need a surgical repair, but it will wait until next year.

The tech day is a fairly casual gathering at Fred's shop. No coordinator needed. Fred or someone will run the BBQ. This was a Yahoo_DSN event before it became popular with the KLR forums.

I will try to be in Moab by Wednesday. Thursday at the latest. I'm at the Canyonlands Campground, one of the cabins. I'll be with my wife and a buddy. Gray Tahoe/trailer (wife is driving there), and two KLRs--one red, one Barbie.

EDIT: I saw on another site that Mike will be there on Fri and Sat, and he is grilling again and wrenching, so no problems.
