Bay Area/NorCal Tech Day?

I need to do my valves and I'm guessing there are some other folks out there who would like to get together and talk smack about doohickeys, etc. Here's the problem. I have no garage. I have very few tools. What I do have are movie star good looks and...well, that's about all I have.

Anyway, anyone around here feel like hosting? I'm sure everyone could/would make it worth your while. Feel kind of awkward throwing this out...wish I could do it at my place, but it just isn't feasible.

I am in for attending. Helped out at EagleMikes Tech Day in San Diego today. I need to work on my KLR and really need to ride it more. The Strom has been getting all of the attention lately.

Yeah, I wish I could have been there. Family commitments. So, anyone?

It's too hot over here this time of year. If somebody in the bay or on the coast will host I might be able to make it over with the valve shims. I'm booked June 20th and July 25th...in between those dates and I can probably attend.

I cannot host, but would like to attend and learn how to adjust my valves on my 08. I am coming from Windsor, hour north of SF.

Well, after a little pep talk from another rider, it sounds like I might be interested in hosting. I live in Cloverdale and can offer garage space and a fair set of tools. I will negotiate with the wife and see which days might work out.
I have not attended one of these before, so I will likely need a bit of guidance with the planning.
I will try to post some available dates over the next couple of days. Let me know what the basic expectations are and I will try to get the garage in order.

The host is king, man. You tell us what you need. As we get dates organized and see who needs to do what to their bikes we'll know what tools need to be brought in, etc.

Just to give you an idea...when I went to the tech day last year I had no idea what to expect, but I kind of assumed it would be a bunch of people working on similar things. But there were all kinds of things being done. And those in the know were kind enough to kind of circulate and guide the work.

It's kind of like a barn raising, but more oily. Plus, I don't think the Amish drink beer while they work.

Vallejo (central NorCal location) to Cloverdale
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...8,2.460937&z=9

Here are a couple things to consider.
- It will last longer than you think. It just does.
- We will need to eat while we are there so a BBQ is a good idea.
- Everyone should chip in to pay for the food and tip the Host for the use of his garage.
- Dogs, Burgers, Potato salad, Coffee, Beer, Soda, Water, Paper plates, Shop Towels,...
- Talk to everyone about your tools and the rules of your home. Yes we will need to use the restroom . It is your home and we will honor your rules.
- Doo Hickey tools are needed and a few of us have them.
- Two torque wrench is necessary, 1/2" (Foot Pounds) and 1/4" (Inch Pounds).
- Manuals are needed.
- Oil disposal is needed.
+ If anyone needs parts this is the time to order them. If the parts come from EagleMike he can ship them where ever you need them to be shipped. Tell Mike the parts are being used at a new NorCal Tech Day location.
- What else?

Bike lifts. Might be some folks nearby could bring theirs or drop them off ahead of time? Even if there is one, we'll probably need more than one. Other than that, I think you got it covered, Tim.

Well, it looks like August 9th would be the soonest that I could pull it off. We will be out of town most weekends in July.

Here is what I have to offer:
garage
mediocre set of tools
barbecue
5 gallons of homebrew IPA...maybe- it could evaporate during the July heat.

What I don't have:
repair knowledge/experience with KLR
bike lifts
torque wrench
manual(s)
a need for the Amish work ethic

So really, other than the availability of the space, I am fairly useless. I would like to do the doohickey upgrade if anyone would be willing to help (did I mention homebrew?). Also, I don't need any tips or anything like that, it would just be cool to meet some folks who ride. I am sure that I can convince the wife to help me plan some good eats. So, if this works, let's call it a tech day.

Lastly, can anyone tell me which parts I should order from Eagle Mike for an '09? I would rather order too many parts than be without, so anything to do the job right.

Thanks!
