Knoxville Berryessa Saturday 11 December

A small group of DS bikes (3-4 bikes) are doing Knoxville Berryessa Saturday. Afternoon will be all dirt near Knoxville - might try to cross over to Cache Creek via Reiff Road..might end up at Cow Mtn...not sure yet - should be a good day.

If you would like to join - we are meeting in West Sacramento, West Capital Exit, at the Chevron Station at 8 am; leaving soon after.

If you want to meet along the way we are taking the standard route through Winters - Putah Creek - Spanish Flat - Knoxville...prob stop at Posers for a quick break.

How wet / slippery were the concrete crossings?

I will ride Knoxville Rd to Lower Lake to Middleton to Pope Valley to 128 to Winters and return on Sunday or Monday.

Hey Bill, good to see you on here, next time. Who would have known SCR would have such a thriving DS Chapter...

Regarding the water crossings on Knoxville / Berryessa – only 1 crossing had water; they were all fairly slick. On a different note – last time I did this road I had the stock shock - I had to slow down to almost 10mph and I still bottomed out – progressive rear and front end upgrade – I hit those bad boys at 60+ mph....like hitting a small speed bump – best upgrade yet – should have done suspension first thing.

For the true DS Rider – Knoxville is hard to beat. Beautiful 25 mile goat trail – narrow, winding, elevation changes, paved water crossings, very little traffic - this road has it all. Add in the fact the Knoxville OHV area is right there....DS Heaven. We did Knoxville to Lower Lake – gassed up, got lunch – headed back to the Elephant Mine Trail out of South Staging Area – got lost but the trails we did find were technical, challenging, and a whole lotta fun. Can’t wait to get back there for more exploring.

On a different note – anybody every ride Leesville Road? You can pick it up off Hwy20 10 miles west of I5 or off Bear Creek Valley Road – I won’t give the details – but you won’t be disappointed. I combined my trip down Leesville with a run up FS7 to the Grindstone Creek Lookoute / Grindstone Fire Memorial – classic ridgeline and jeep road riding....def a worthy trip for somebody looking for some tarmax and dirt but nothing technical. Hit me up for the full trip report and/or gps track if interested.

C u all out there.

Sean

Sean, thanks for the report and yes I am interested in Leesville Rd. Last night I was plotting a trip that included that road. Last year while going to Etna I started to take Leesville but did not know much about it so I turned around. Glad I did because it would have added an hour to a cold rain ride.

Yeah, SCR has a growing DS faction for sure. I'm still figuring out how to ride my new DS bike so I want to take it easy for a little while and stay off the REAL technical stuff for now. Single track and water crossings don't scare me but huge jumps and 90 degree wall climbs are a little out of my league right now. Plus, I'm REALLY old now and kinda brittle. I want to try to not crash.
