Went fishing today. Dropped a dowel pin in the Chunnel. New rotor bolt and cam cover bolt washers (leaking badly) on the way. Thanks E.M. I see funny comparisons sometimes and this is what hit me.

I learned the same lesson as tomo when I recently did the doo. Even though it all went fine, it didn't have to, and I found myself thinking that I should have an extra flywheel bolt on-hand, as well as extra gaskets, over and above the one spare of each I had at the time. I'm building a small laundry list of items to purchase from Eagle Mike, and those head it up. These things don't cost a lot and take up very little space - no reason for me not to preemptively have them on-hand.

Glad you found that pin (I didn't stuff anything in the holes, and was just super-careful and attentive when removing the case pieces. Thanks tomo, for your posts.

I've re-used my rotor bolt 3 times, I only torque to 130 ft lb with anti-sieze grease on the threads & under the bolt head.
I dis-agree with the service manuals and many other people on this item.

But clean & DRY the tapers with carb cleaner, always!

It would be fun to do a failure torque test.
You would need to screw it into a 'blind hole' like a fancy lug nut on a truck, clamp a boxed-end wrench into a bench vise and use a 200-250 ft lb bending beam or dial-type torque wrench to get a reading.

We will be anxiously waiting for your results. :)

No gorilla needed, but a good sense of Balance and an uncluttered work area if it 'snaps' instantly would be advised and someone else watching the scale.
With my foot against the work bench I regularly pull 230 ft lb on the center tower of the Kawasaki ATV CVT primary clutches.
I'm currently only 155lbs.
