No start no crank

So I’m fairly new to klrs and mine was running and riding fine. I’m doing some work to fix the blinkers and I go to try and start it and I get nothing. No crank no clicks no sounds when I press the button. I know the battery is fully charged and the leads are well connected. I’ve replace the kill switch and the starter relay. I’ve checked almost all the wires and I can’t seem to figure it out. The fact that there’s no noises and I still get all electronics on leads me to believe it’s a safety sensor of some kind. I know I no longer have the side stand sensor and I didn’t need the clutch to start when in neutral.
any help is greatly appreciated

Welcome to the forum. Not too sure what your back ground of working with bikes is? If this is your first bike or have been working on them as long as some of us?

Electrical issues seem to be best looked at in steps. If all fails you will have to correct or rewire the turn signals back to the way you had them when the bike was running and she what happened.

Have you tried to jump the starter relay yet? You said that you have power to the instrument cluster when you turn the key on that is good. You have the Red emergency on and off switch on right bar to the "on or run" position?

If you have a multi meter for checking power and to see if wires are good. Checking to see if you have a good ckt from the starter to the starter relay.

Even though you say the bike is in neutral and you don't have to pull the clutch in, I would. I use a clamp or rope to hold mine in when I am working on it just in case....that is just me.

Keep us posted and let us know how it is going.

As far as experience I’ve worked on plenty of cars but this is the first bike I’ve owned and worked on.
i can jump the relay with a screw driver and it cranks.

I’ve tested with a multimeter the voltage at the relay and at the kill switch plug on the chassis side. I should say ohms for the kill switch plug to see if there’s maybe a break in the wire.

As far as the signals they weren’t ever wired since I’ve owned the bike I put the wires on and the blinkers worked. Then I tried to start it and it wouldn’t. I took all of it back apart to try and put it back to the way it was when running and that hast helped.

I should also say I’ve checked all the fuses and replaced the starter relay. It seems to me that for some reason it’s not getting power to the relay to tell it to turn on. Maybe a neutral sensor or something like that.

It seems like the button isn’t providing the closed circuit to tell the relay to connect power.

Sounds like you are going in the right direction. If you are able to jump the starter relay then it might not be getting a signal from the starter button. Check to see if you have a open and close ckt from the button to the starter relay.

If you have to run a bypass wire from the starter button trigger to the starter relay side and see if it works when you put the button. That will help to isolate the issue.

I have had to run new trigger wires on many bikes. It is not worth the time to find the a broken wire in a harness if that is in fact the issue. Just run a new wire and make sure it is secured.

When you removed the kickstand safety switch, did you just remove it or did you jumper the end of the switch connector. I am not too sure if it needs a open or a closed ckt for the KLR?

Keep looking, you will find it.

On the Gen 1 bikes the starter button controls a low amp relay in the round black rubber holster below the HIGH Amp starter relay, not directly to the high amp relay.
