Re: 650 S seat. The stock 'S' seat is probably not as comfortable as the standard KLR. So...

If anyone is looking for an inexpensive seat cushion. E-bay, $25. I've logged a couple hundred miles with it and am pleased. But it works for one reason only. At first I was disappointed because it was the same firmness as the seat. Just as hard and I almost sent it back. But.. it adds width. More of my butt is supported which, in a way, mutes the pain on long rides. I've decided it is a significant improvement. So if you try it, ride several times over a couple lengthy rides. At first you probably won't like it. Bottom picture on my bike.

I'm keeping it. But if you hate it don't say I mislead. It's just a suggestion and return it.

That looks kind of interesting. I have a friend riding a Vulcan 900 Classic that was asking about something like that just yesterday.
His Saddleman Seat is quite hard & low and makes his butt sweat on hot days, needs some air flow underneath.

Doesn't the extra padding/height sort of defeat the purpose of the S seat?

I am 6'2" and comfortably flatfoot my regular KLR, then I added a pad similar to the one above and noticed the difference. I can still flatfoot it, but it was a definite increase in height. I ended up ordering a Sargent Seat and will try it out next weekend.

The pad pictured above looks very interesting and I bet would have worked much better than the narrower one I tried...

At 5'9" I'm flat-footed on the S. So adding 1/2" back was no problem. But I have zero natural cushion on my backside. Most seats are way too firm for me. I was looking for a bit of cushion. I was disappointed that the pad seamed as firm as the seat. But like I said it made the seat a bit flatter and wider and I think after several hundred miles it's breaking in a bit. So it has muted the pain. I just thought for 28 bucks somebody else might be looking for an alternative to a $450 custom seat.
