I have a 2005 klr 650 with 1100 miles on it I did the valve adjustment this summer and all seemed to go well including the test ride after.I then let the bike sit for about a month and when I started it I could not give it any gas without stalling even after a few minutes of idleing on choke as soon as I give it the slightest amount of throttle it dies out ,and it will restart only on choke.I have checked the airbox and filter for obstructions,checked the petcock in both on and reserve positions,all hose routings seem fine no kinks or pinched hoses,also changed the spark plug which looked fine(not fouled).The only thing left I could think of is removing the carb but it has never been off or modified and the gas was new after the valve adjustment no water or contamination I have seen.Before I took it apaqrt for nothing I thought I would see if anyone has run into this I must be overlooking something obvious anyone have any ideas ?????

Mine did something like your describing and it was junk in the carb. I few shots of carb cleaner corrected the problem. You might try "seafoam" in your gas too.
I may be off base here,but if you are giving it a little throttle,are you also letting out on the clutch?Not being there it's hard to tell,but maybe it's the kickstand/clutch switch.This would only come into play if your in gear and starting to move.It could also be that your choke cable is not releasing at the carb.

Well I am in neutral clutch out kickstand up or down and as soon as I move the choke off at all it will stall out or if i give it any throttle at all someone told me the pilot jet could be plugged but I sprayed carb cleaner through all the jets when it was apart so I think I will take it apart again and double check
Hello, I can tell you that it is most likely the pilot jet , the tell tale sign is that you have to keep the choke on for it to run witch supplies gas, as soon as you try to idle , witch is off the pilot jet it will die. the holes in the pilot jet are very fine and need a very small needle or maybe a wire off of your wire brush usually works, Hope this helps, also some high pressure air really is nice:fighting0002:

The only difference was that I let the bike sit for 6 months.
I finally got around to working on the bike because I was installing a Big Gun slip on muffler (really nice sound - not much louder than stock.)
I also rejetted the carb.
California bike.
No blockage was found in the idle jet and the carb looked brand new (the bike is only 1 year old w/ 4000 mi.
What I did notice was the idle jet was at 1 1/2 turns out and the rejet kit from Dyno Jet had me go to 3 1/2 turns out.
Not much difference with the main jet as the stock needle is a 148 and the one I put in is a 150.
Now I only need to move the choke lever about 1/4 way to start the bike and within 1 min the choke is off and the bike is running very good.
