Which bike???

So I’m selling my XT. Too small for me. I love to ride mostly roads around the mountains of northeast Pennsylvania and I only do hard pack dirt and gravel off-road riding with some no winter maintenance roads. I do not do single track.

I’m 6 foot 4 180 pounds. No need to go too fast but do love to Have some snappy throttle response for twisties.

Wouldn’t mind being able to do some riding, but that’s not going to be the majority of what I do.

So… KLR or possibly an NC 750? What are your thoughts?

Obviously, the NC is going to be better on the road and for what I do off-road it could probably match the KLR. Conversely, though, I do hear the KLR is better for taller riders and I do love that the KLR is pretty well bulletproof.

I also love the insane aftermarket support of the KLR and I’ve heard that the KLR community is full of the nicest riders who are interested in helping other people and generally are humble and don’t have huge egos

You made your choice already sounds like to me. Enjoy the KLR 650, sounds like the bike for you except it is not fast but it will get the job done. At 180 pounds it will feel a lot peppier than it does for most KLR riders over 200 lol

If I were you I'd get the KLR. I'm currently without a bike after 19 years on a KLR. So far I haven't replaced it but if I were to do that, number 1 on my list. is the NC750. So why am I advising you to get a KLR??!! Because at your age I don't think you would b e happy on a NC. It's a Grandpa bike IMO, and me being a Grandpa with 20+ years on you it's the bike for me, not you.

At 6'4" I think that the KLR seat, bar & foot peg position will be more comfortable on longer rides, with room to move around on the flatter seat than the NC750.
How long are your legs? JNS Engineering sells lowering brackets for the KLR foot pegs. Many KLR riders love them.

Instead of an NC750 how about a Transalp?

Before I bought my new bike, I made a list of the top 5 or 6 Dual Sport/Adventure bikes available, and spent time testing them.

For a Tall person (I'm 6' 2") an African twin or Transalp should be considered.

My next stop was Kawasaki and they had several KLR 650 and KLX 300 dual sports.

The Suzuki V-Strom 650 and 800, as well as the DR 650.

If you are still young, and enjoy blasting around on dirt, you should test the improved Yamaha Tenere 700. Apparently they lowered the CG.

But since i am now age 65, I choose the DR 650 based on specs, then purchased my KLR 650 because it sits and rides a ton better.

I intentionally avoided bikes from Itally, Austria, India, China, or anything Harley, because I am focused on reliability, and dealer network.
