That is a nice one ! Mine is blue . No, NOT inverted . The chrome bit screws onto the lower fork leg to hold the upper bushing and oil seal and the upper piece it a cover. They did things differently back then.

...and if you think the factory front forks on our KLRs are bad, try one of these.

Check this out. I was surfing the web the other day looking into something I thought was cool. Outside of mopeds and scooters I had no idea there were 50cc street legal "motorcycles" still available. My favorite, hands down, is the Aprilia RSV4 50 Race Replica. There are YouTube videos about the Aprilia and I'm sure others, I'm on my way to look myself. Wouldn't it be fun to have one just for awhile?

Now this one is called "Ninja" but I'm not sure it's made by Kawasaki.

Aprilia's RS4 50cc race replica. Two stroke. However, I believe this image, even though it came from Aprilia, is one of their larger RS4 models. I could be wrong but the tires look somewhat larger than the 50cc model's. The engine does look pretty small indeed. I know this is a larger version because it's a RS4. "4" meaning 4 cylinders. The RS50 single cylinder 2-Stroke.

Which ones are actually available at dealerships in the USA & Canada?

That is a good question. I thought about that and I'm not sure yet. Yes, I know they maybe only produced for the Asian market. I want to speak to an Aprilia and Yamaha dealership sometime to ask about the availability. I forgot Yamaha makes or used to make a TZ50 as well. Of course there is a 125cc version of the Aprilia I'm not sure about the others. I know the 2-Strokes are not allowed in California. What really amazes me is that they have 50cc sport bikes (I'm certain for the European road racing market). The Aprilia has a oil tank under the seat for the 2-Stroke oil.

I've seen this 2009 Aprilia RS 125 in person. Pretty cool indeed. The dealership wants $7,500 for it. He got it from a dealership in Cali. where he purchased 5 of the units from him. It's never had gas put in the tank.

So as we all suspected I spoke with both a Yamaha and a Aprilia dealership and neither the Yamaha TZR 50 nor the Aprilia RS4 50 are available in the US. This is really too bad. I really think I would have purchased a Aprilia RS4 50 MotoGP replica just for fun. Well, it was fun while it lasted.

I noticed the price has dropped on the Aprilia RS 125 "Spain's No. 1" motorcycle I posted above. It's no longer $7,500 it's now $6,999. Wait long enough it may make it down to $3,999. 😃

There used to be a company which specialized in importing non-USA models and getting them documented for USA legalities.
IIRC, the name was EMI. Exotic Motorcycle Imports.

Imagine that! 1952 Honda Dream E.
The frame runs Directly / Straightly from the steering neck to the rear axle!
I'll bet no rider ever experienced the "KLR Waltz" at highway speeds on one of those! :)

Yeah, isn't that cool. Real streamline and basic yet beautiful. Look at the cool clutch and brake levers in reverse with cables on the inside of the bars. It even has passenger pegs. Would you want to be a passenger on that seat with no rear suspension? Not me. That's the sort of motorcycle you move a couple chairs out of your living room and put that motorcycle in their stead. 😂

A certain downside to gray market motorcycles is securing needed parts as required e.g. valves, pistons, gears, clutch parts etc. I really don't see anyone getting too far when they call their local Honda dealership asking for parts for a 1991 Honda RS125R.

Believe it or not this is or was a Honda XL600V Transalp. This is a perfect example of why I don't like molested motorcycles.

Been spending some time on my '89 Honda Transalp this spring. Man, I really like that motorcycle! Do I dare say I almost like it better than my '15 KLR? Seems as though the more miles I put on the Transalp the more I like it. Before I get banned from the forum maybe I should shut up. Wish everyone had the opportunity to ride a '89 Transalp, you would know what I mean. Wow, very cool.

Have had my '89 TA for almost 30 years and 140,000 miles. Just gave it it's yearly check over. It's all good still. Taking it and the KLR to southern Illinois next week for some riding in the Shawnee National Forest. KLR for beating up on the crappy off road, TA for gentlemanly cruising on twisty hard roads and some gravel.

Everyone who has thrown a leg over it has been impressed. Several offers...none taken.

ymracing - Did you happen to see the post I made on transalp.org regarding TA t-shirts? They're pretty good t-shirts and the best TA shirts I've found.

No, I didn't. Will look in a bit.

Went to look at this motor today. It's a 1983 750cc V-45 Magna. I guess I don't remember them being that small. I sat on it to get the fit and my knees where pretty close to the handlebars. Just a bit too cramped for me.

I also sat on this 1984 Interceptor as well. I don't remember the wheelbase being that long either. Far too long a stretch to the handlebars.

Yep, I rode both of those back in the day....along with a V45 Interceptor, V65 Magna and VF500. I bought a 1983 V45 Interceptor about 10 years ago and it wasn't as comfortable as I remembered! sold it a few years later.

I think those are some of the best examples of coolness of their time. If that Magna were a V65 I might be more favorable to a purchase. And that Interceptor. Wow, cool, but I guess I don't see me spending a lot of miles riding it. Too uncomfortable on my shoulders and back. I'll have to let someone else have some fun on those very neat retro motors. Darn it anyway. 😕

Yeah those and the original Yamaha VMax, which I also had the pleasure of riding. I hear you on the comfort thing; that's a major consideration for me now at my age - I had a ZX6R 5 years ago and couldn't ride it for more than 15 minutes without being in pain from the shoulders and neck! .....oh well, aging is better than the alternative!
