Just got this bike 1987 very clean, 9000 miles. EM doohickey done and tested - good. New tires , chain guard removed to prevent rubbing. Brand new sprocket front and rear, brand new o ring chain, oiled, chain tension set properly (bike is lowered two inches so ive tried several different chain tensuobs between touching the black guard and about 1/4 inch away) i weigh about 130 lbs…. It looks like my master link is touching the frame on the bottom side as it exits the front sprocket ? It’s almost as if my master link posts are too long ? The original chain was a rivet chain, do i need to switch back to that? Ant ideas ? Allignment has been checked with a strsight edge. Looks to be some wiggle on top of chain entry into front sprocket. Do i need a new chain guide ? Seems to be plenty of meat left of it

By the way it does not happen sitting still in neutral at all and everything has been tightened to factory torque spec

Most Front sprockets for the KLR650 have steps on each side. The Shorter & Smaller diameter Step is supposed to be installed Towards the engine.
Some real Cheap engine sprockets just use a collection of spacer shims.

If the chain is contacting the Cross-Tube Below the chain, then your bike is missing the rubber slider that attaches to the lower rear engine mount bolt and curves around the cross-pipe.
