This is a VERY old thread but since the question of a potentially wrong cover on a 2016 has come up it needs to be resurrected.

The 650 covers are all the same. The different part number refers to the color, black versus grey versus silver-ish.

 

A couple of interesting differences.

The oil passages on the 2009 cap are actually tapered holes that are .272" dia. at the perimeter of the cap, tapering to .235 dia. The Mojave cap has straight .235" dia. holes.

The 2009 cap has a counterbore at the oil passages that is .423" dia., whereas the Mojave cap is about .39" and as-cast.

I have not had a chance to make a measured comparison to the stock cap on my '09, but I can say that the 11012-1538 has no visual differences other than this cap is painted high-speed-racing-black.

This one was sold as having come from a '93 Mojave 250 and cost a mere $11.

With the prices for KLR650 stuff seemingly going up (current e-bay listings are $30 - $45 for a filter cap), looking at identical parts from models with lesser demand can result in a bargain.

I'm going to modify this one to take oil pressure readings at the filter outlet.
